how can i find out if my 8GB PNY attache usb drive supports booting

I have a PNY attache 8GB flash drive i tried installing back track 3 on it
I know i fallowed the tut correctly also went in to bios and changed the boot order
so it boots of USB but i still got a "boot error" msg

then i found out that it can also be the flash drive it's self so, went to there web site and found nothing.
called there 1800 number found out that it was a complete wast of time.

what i want to know is were can i find if this flash drive supports booting, or if any one can recommend me a good
bootable flash drive?

the answer to your question is probably on the BT forum but any U3 drive will for sure be bootable even though any fairly new USB stick "should" work too

I gotta agree with what Chris said. I personally roll with the SanDisk Cruzer Flash Drive. Gets the job done. Link may be useful to you below:

so its posible that the usb drive i have is bad and not the way i set it up? i only ask because i did every thing that 3 or more tut said to do and i still kept getting an error msg

I had an issue getting an old stick to boot, never did figure out what the problem was, it held data just fine, I even tried to format it. I used a 2 GB scandisk cruzer like Kris pointed out and it works just fine.

As you've said (and others have confirmed) not all USB drives are bootable. You don't always need to go for the expensive peripherals though, I'm currently running on a cheap (<£10/$20) unbranded stick without issue.
