I read the tut on how to install BT3 on USB but it still wont boot up when
I reset.
this is what i did when i started, i formatted my USB to fat 32 then downloaded "WinRAR" extracted BT3 to desktop dragged BT3 to USB
run command prompt typed in L: then cd boot then bootinst.bat "enter" "enter"
it tells me that the boot install was complete but it wont boot up

also when i type in L: for my USB drive nothing comes up just L:\> i saw this video tut and when he did it,it showed him what was in his drive.

Am i doing something wrong or did i leave a cmd out?

What OS are you doing this in?

If you are running Vista then you need to run the cmd.exe as an administrator (right-click->Run as Administrator). If not, the modifications will fail but not in anyway the BackTrack script recognises so claims it was successful.

also when i type in L: for my USB drive nothing comes up just L:\> i saw this video tut and when he did it,it showed him what was in his drive.
Apologises if I'm stating the obvious but I've seen people make similar mistakes when following tutorials and videos for things that are new to them; is your USB drive assigned to L: ?

Finally have you set you BIOS to boot from USB first? Also try different USB ports, some machines are configured to only boot from some of the available ports.

Hope this is of some help, good luck

If there's nothing else important on the USB drive, re-format it and start over.

I've run into the same issue and re-formatting the drive, then re-copying and running the bat file again fixed the problem.

Most of the BIOS now comes with various USB options like the following:

-> USB-FDD
-> USB-ZIP
-> USB-CDROM
-> USB-HDD

Make sure you select the right option. Also check if you have the option "USB Flash Disk Type" and set it to "Auto".

Hope this helps.

Just read your second thread you opened on the same topic. If it's still and issue for you, head over to Remote-Exploit Forums. There are alot of smart people on there who are willing to help. Just before you ask your question over there to use the search feature offered of you'll get the worse end. Might also want to check the wiki. Check these links out:

It might be worth downloading the USB Version of BT3 again, just to ensure your current version isnt corrupt in some way.

Then copy the contents to your USB Drive, making a note of the drive letter.

Then open a command promt, and change directory to that of your USB Drive.

So for example to move to F:\ drive if that was your USB.

Quote
c:\>f:
f:\>
f:\>cd boot
f:\CD BOOT>bootinst.bat

Now move to the appropriate directory and run the script.

Fingers crossed everything work as expected.

YouTube Video might help also
