This article on Wired, published two days ago has quite a rating on Digg. Yet it's nothing new.
Cloning RFID cards is something that's been discussed on this site as well as many others, and was shown on a recent episode of
Tiger Team.
"Why is this news?" you may ask. My question is "Why isn't it in the mainstream news?" I keep seeing commercials on TV for "Speed Pass" this and "EZ Pass" that, with credit cards and the like. Average Joe just isn't being informed enough of the dangers associated it.
Is the convenience of it taking one second to wave your card in front of the reader as opposed to the one and a half seconds to swipe the mag strip really worth it?
OK, I admit I'm a little cranky because my wife just decided to "upgrade" to RFID credit cards for us because it "looked cool on the commercial." sigh
