Just goes to show that there are ways to get victimized other than attacking directly.

Quote
(AP) — Hackers took over and defaced Comcast Corp.'s Web portal for several hours overnight, leaving a cryptic message on the site that the company's 14.1 million subscribers use to access e-mail, news and technical support.

Some users were still not able to access their Web-based e-mail accounts via Comcast.net at midday Thursday.

The front page of Comcast.net went down shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday and was replaced with a note saying the hackers had "RoXed" Comcast, according to postings at BroadbandReports.com.

Service had been partially restored Thursday, he said.

"We're working on (full restoration) furiously, as you can imagine," the spokesman said.

There was no indication that e-mail or other private information was compromised by the attack, Comcast said.

The hackers appeared to have seized control of the Comcast.net domain name at registrar Network Solutions Inc. and redirected it to other servers, a spokeswoman for the company said.

"We have alerted law enforcement authorities and are working in conjunction with them," she said.

what are the chances that who ever was behind that attack will be caught?

I'd guess it depends on the actual amount of damage done and the 'muppet-factor'.

If, as the story states, the comcast domain was redirected then it depends where it was redirected to. If it was redirected to some kiddies' home 'puter then I'd say chances are high. If it was redirected to a Chinese/Russian/etc. server that had also been owned or rented with fraudulent CC's I'm guessing the chance of them getting caught is low.

We'll just have to wait and see...
