In my eyes, your operating system is as solid as swiss cheese.

That much on board cache will help a lot. I was amazed what a performance boost I got when I went from 512 cache to 1 mb. But why a 6-core cpu when there are not even that many apps that use dual core?

I don't even have any dual core computers, yet. Other than one laptop with a 64-bit processor and one server with dual Xeon processors, all of my equipment is 32-bit, single core. I haven't really needed much better, but I guess that's mostly because I don't need to play TF2, format a hard drive, crack RSA, and rip a movie all at the same time. Tongue

Still, the technology is impressive. If I had the extra cash, I would probably get the craziest technology I could afford. Grin

True, is nice to have a fast computer, but that all depends on what you are running on your computer.

The software programs are so far behind the hardware as it is, adding more cores to a board is just marketing fluff.  It's 99% to sell you a new piece of hardware, and 1% useful.  When software starts catching up with hardware, I'll be more interested.  That is... unless you're doing clustered john the ripper or something, then more stand alone computers are a cool thing.
