Aren't VMware configuration files .vmx? And can't you just google this? They're all going to be different based on OS, settings, etc.

ismith,

if you are going to follow Billv googling advice, then use in your search words the following

ext:vmx

and any extra words that describe the config you want (e.g windows, Linux)

the ext:vmx  tells google to find files that have the vmx extension in thier names.

I'd had similiar issues with VMware that caused me to run machines on dedicated hardware instead. Quick upgrade to 4GB RAM and everything is smooth as a baby's bottom.

i just installed vmware workstation version 5 and loaded ubuntu and windows server 2003 on it, i have 2 gigs of ram, i have not had any problems, am i just lucky or should i expect some issues with it.

What is your host OS? And do you run them both simultaneously?

I have an XP host that runs my VM's at home. I just run the Memory Gauge Widget from Yahoo Widgets and keep an eye on the amount of RAM that I'm using to run my VM's.

I used to have 2GB of memory installed as well, and didn't seem to run into too many problems unless I started running more than 2 VM's at once (depending on what they were).

the host is XP Pro, I run them at the same time all the time because i set up a team so i just power up the team, do you think i could add a third without upgrading the ram or would that be pushing it.
