Exam Question
«
on:
March 19, 2008, 06:59:40 AM »
Hi,
I have just been given a code to register for the CEH exam at a test centre, and take the self study route.
Couple of questions i have, How long is this code valid for, ideally now i know i can take the exam, i would like to spend 6 months or so studying now, then register for the exam?
Also is version 6 of the exam likely to be released within the next 6 months? Or am i find using all the current material.
Many thanks,

Well, where did you get your exam registration code? Whoever gave it to you can tell you how long you have to use it. Somehow, you're going about things backwards. You normally study first, then ask for the exam code when you're ready to take the test.
Yes, v6 of the exam should be released at HH this year, so I'd imagine testing centers will have it shortly after that.

I did the CEHv5 self paced study a few months ago and my exam code expired on December 31, 2007. I had something from the training center that said when it expired.
I agree with BillV, the v6 course is probably going to be coming out very soon, so you might want to plan on taking the exam sooner than 6 months from now. I would pick up a copy of
The Official Certified Ethical Hacker Review Guide
, you could be ready to take the exam in a week or two, and definitely try a practice exam or two.
Good luck on the exam!

Thanks guys, turns out it expires in June, so i have plenty of time to prepare. Hopefully V6 will be out by then, but doesn't really matter if its not i suppose.

I would check with the testing center and see when the CEHv5 exam is supposed to retire, just to be safe.

There's usually a couple months of overlap when a new version of the exam is released where you can choose which version of the exam to take. They eventually make a cutoff date where only the new version will be available. I would again point to you your chosen testing facility to get that answer as each can probably decide what they want to offer and when.
Hope this helps,
Don

How much differences between one version and the other, say ceh4, and 5? what would be the advantages of taking the latest exam? longer certification period? are the exam engines themselves different?

There is a significant difference in the material (and exam) from v4 to v5. The advantage would be that you're more current on the materials offered. The certification period will remain the same. You take the test using the same method, only there are more questions in v5 than v4, and they are obviously reflective of the updated material.

Also keep in mind that the newer exams will have newer information.
The CEHv6 is supposed to have 28 modules that weren't covered in CEHv5.

This is the email I got from the EC-Council regarding CEHv5 and CEHv6.

Hi Jess
It will be retired about a year after the introduction of V6 so plenty of time left....
Ben
Just thought that might be handy.

Thanks alot for the help, V5 it is
Time to start the cramming
although i hear some people do these certs in a couple of weeks, i prefer to spread them out of a couple of months and get involved in the practicle side of things, makes them alot more interesting that way IMO and i learn alot more than just passing an exam.
