This only works with Mandriva linux. First of all, boot the pc. On the logon screen, go to the menu button below. Select console login. The type in root to start as the administrator. That's all. The start the X server by typing startx.

Does the console login not prompt you for a root password? The only reason it would not do so is if you have not set a root password. The default action when there is no password set is to let you in without prompting for the password.

I think this is most likely a configuration issue than a security flaw in Mandriva. For information, you can also get to a console login login by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 through Ctrl-Alt-F6. There are usually a number of thse pseudo terminals available on the console.

You just did bishini.   And Jimbob is correct, it looks like it's a configuration problem of the root password not being set or somesuch.  Mandriva isn't Windblows 98. Wink

No , there is a password for the root account. The setup asks you for it.

So what happens if you go in after you have logged on in this way and manually reset the password?  Can you replicate this?  I guess it is time to download a Mandriva ISO and set up a VM session.  Has anyone else tested this out?
