It's been a long time coming, so we hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Permanent Link: [Article]-EH-Net Presents BackTrack 2 with Metasploit 3 as a Virtual Appliance

Quote
First released to ChicagoCon 2007 attendees,
now available to everyone!!

The Ethical Hacker Network (EH-Net) proudly releases the only Official Version of BackTrack 2 that not only adds Metasploit 3 to the toolset but is also packaged as a VMware Virtual Appliance. Here are just a few of the features added by the projects lead developer, Mati Aharoni, specifically for the EH-Net Community:

  • Metasploit updated to latest svn, all dependencies upgraded
  • Added fabs patches for msfgui
  • Aircrack-ng updated to 1.0 svn, all dependencies upgraded
  • Tcpdump patched (security fix)
  • Firefox updated to latest
  • Firefox links, favorites and home page
  • A few more lib fixes for old nasties in BT2 final

For those of you who are not familiar with BackTrack, here's a brief description directly from the project's web site, http://www.remote-exploit.org/:

BackTrack is the result of merging the two innovative penetration testing live linux distributions Auditor and Whax. Backtrack provides a thorough pentesting environment which is bootable via CD, USB or the network (PXE). The tools are arranged in an intuitive manner, and cover most of the attack vectors. Complex environments are simplified, such as automatic Kismet configuration, one click Snort setup, precompiled Metasploit lorcon modules, etc. BackTrack has been dubbed the #1 Security Live CD by Insecure.org, and #32 overall.

As always, feedback is welcomed.

Have fun,
Don

Thanks for the great resource!

Is there an MD5/SHA1 hash (or even better a GPG sig) available for the download?

Thanks!

Whoops.  Embarrassed

I just posted the hashes in the article, but just in case:

md5: 9D30FECD89BDA7F64099C8DAD6CF1190
sha1: 0C221E731FCEC68494D3121CF806BAD10CB42A78

Thanks for the compliments so far. Glad to be able to contribute these types of learning tools. That's why we're here.

Just out of curiosity, does 7-zip bother anyone? It's really going to help on my bandwidth costs.  Shocked

Don,

Thanks for making this avail. to those of us that couldn't make the conference.  I have run Back Track before, and am totally pysched to have the very latest version that is EH branded.  Please everyone forgive the pandering, but it is unbelievable what has been accomplished in a short amount of time.

Yes it is true, I am a contributor (which makes Don my boss) but honestly what other site does this much for its members?

Also, 7-zip is great! I have been using it exclusively for a while.  7-zip allows you to easily vacillate between windows and *nix enviroments.

Firstly my copy extracted just fine using WinRAR 3.70. Obviously I checked the MD5 sum first and it was OK. Diablo22, did you check yours too? It may have been downloaded corrupt.

Secondly I am releasing this on the eDonkey network. I'll only be online a few hours per day. Here is the link; ed2k://|file|ehnet_bt2_vm.7z|902520638|F529DBF46092A114BDE85411E7D68EBE|h=ZYF36YIOTZUXW7LV5LXBSTN24WDHQVEB|/

Great work, I'm using it with my Alfa AWUS036H.  I have a question, I'm using the latest svn version of the aircrack suite, but I seem to be getting odd power level readings for ap signal strength (100+) in airodump-ng.  Are the rtl8187 drivers using the latest patch?

Thanks

Dugg!  Cheesy

Hey Don, is there anyway of changing the ed2k link I posted above into a hyperlink without Joomla automatically adding http://, ftp:// or mail to: to it as a prefix? The protocol prefix should just be ed2k://.
