HELP! What to do first? :-/
«

I have many friends in the networking, and programming feilds. But I don't know what is really for me...
I have allways been intrigued by the movie "Hackers", and "Perfect Stranger", and as to what magnificent things were done with computers within those films.
And, I'd like to do that type of job. Hack (Ethically), but also intentionally penitrate programs and computers to solve the problems within those programs and firewalls; and such.
I would really appreciate some knowledge on the subject of deciding which path to go towards, and possible Jobs in the feild - along with what Certs. I would try to get first.
Hope I didn't confuse anyone with this message: But as you can see, I'm confused myself. :-P

I would say Network+ then decide where you want to focus. Maybe Security+ and CEH or you could go with CCNA/JNCIA (this depends on if you want to do Networking too). There is no right or wrong track you just need to know what you want to do. Ether way the CompTIA certs are good and do not expire so you have time to build experience.

I have an unfortunate feeling that this will be changing in the future.

(And thank you all for your input to this point.)

Ryan,
Most of the ones with a + after the name are CompTIA Certifications. You can check their list
here

Are all of the CompTia certs. the certifications that last a lifetime, or a while, at least. Or are they just like the Cisco and such, that last like 3 years?

Thanks. I've also been informed that all prior, and current CompTIA certs. will stay in effect with their original length of time. (Lifetime)
