Spying on a Network
«
on:
September 05, 2007, 07:25:27 PM »
Hi, I am very new to this, I have a small home network set up, I think I have secured it the best I can against outside attacks, that is not the reason why I am here.
Is there a way to see what the kids are doing on any of the computers on my network, I just would like to check up on them when they think I am not looking. Really what I am asking is, is there an easy(ish) way to look at say, what someone is doing on internet explorer or another browser in the same network.
Thanks for your time guys(and girls
!

simply way, run VNC on their computers...
then you can connect and watch whenever you want.
make sure you block it on the home router ;-)

Yep...
Perfect Keylogger
http://www.blazingtools.com/bpk.html
They have a free version and a paid version. you can hide it from the kids and review what they are doing later.
I use parental controls in IE for my kids with a keylogger (they are 8 & 10 years old). I have a list of pages i let them use vie IE.
If you want to get more advanced you can man in the middle attack them (MITM) with Cain & Able but this will require more skills to understand.

Perfect Keylogger is a very good one but not any more......
most of the antivirus programmes catch that and do not let it work although one can do that by adding it into exceptions list if possible.
also you can try with sniffers as all the chat programs kids use go with plain text communication and you can also come to know what they were chatting about and with whom. It also gives you what sites they have been visiting and so on. you can start with Ethereal, its free and works great.
In addition to VNC, you can also try dameware.....but you need to do a few configs so that kids can never know when you connect to their PCs.
Happy Spying

for chats, you could just enable logging and go look later.
sicne its to protect kids, i doubt they'll notice if the keylogger has been added to the exclude list :-)

Another program you may want to check into is Spector Pro:
http://www.spectorsoft.com/
This is a commercial product, but it can actually capture screen shots of the activities, and if you went with their eBlaster program, you can get them e-mailed to you.

Hey Jamie,
Glad to see ya visiting us. There are probably thousands of various keyloggers out there with varying features, some free and some to buy (which usually come with a 2+ week trial).
I think someone mentioned Spector Pro
www.spectorsoft.com
which is a great tool, easy to use, has a TON of features but pretty heafty price tag at over $100. It may be overkill. The other I would recommend you at least have a look at is BigBrother
www.iambigbrother.org
. It looks to do everything that you will need. It'll record all keystrokes, you'll know who they're chatting with and what about, will record all websites that they use their browser to visit, they're emails, social communities sites such as My Space, etc... I think that one is $30.
Hope you find what you need.
