Wow! The Compact Disc turned 25 today Smiley

I guess I didn't even think it was that old, but wow, that's older than I am! Definitely have to appreciate them, but I wonder if we'll continue to see a decline as there are more and more mp3 players and stereos, etc.

I personally see other optical media, notably DVD, as bringing about the demise of the CD. The CD is quickly becoming inadequate as a data storage medium and price is no longer the issue it once was. In fact the transition of so many commercial plants from CD to DVD duplication makes producing DVDs cheaper than CDs in many cases. Eventually CD will go the way of the compact cassette but I imaging it will have a similar lifespan.

Speaking of which, did anyone else here have a computer that used normal compact cassettes as storage media? I can't help but feel that those of us born the the microcomputer generation somehow had a headstart over those before who came before us and those from the PC generation.
