This is an interesting article. I'm not too sure that this guy knows completely what he's talking about. What are your thoughts?

Hire a reformed hacker to reveal the secrets of how bad guys get into your network? It’s tempting – but do your homework first.

Hmmm.

This should be titled " How to hire a former Black Hat Hacker".

It leads in with turning a Russian spy to work for the US. I can't ever see the CIA ever really trusting these guys with their Top Secret information.

White Hat Hacker is a IT Security Professional, with solid references and client history, plus a clean criminal record. Trusted to provide the service required without concern about them stealing the 40 million credit cards in your database

A reformed Black Hat is someone you'd always want to keep an eye on, just in case. Period.

I hate it when these lines start to get blurred by poor research in to the actual facts.
Even the wiki would have been a better place to start ...

Yeah, I really don't think the writer of this article did a good job researching this topic at all. It just seems to sound like it's coming from someone that has not ever worked in the IT industry and doesn't know much about IT Security. This seems to be their perspective on the topic, but obviously wrong. I wonder where he got this impression from.

I left a comment on his article page, but it's "awaiting moderation"

It'll be interesting if he responds.

The last paragraph in the story would upset a bunch of the professionals who haven't step over that ethical line, which he's say most of them probably have.

It's a bit like he's reported on the stories told in the pub after work. They lack real depth. One of his other s talks on NAC as a security to protect again nasties from the Internet

Microsoft says "Network Access Protection is not a security solution. It is designed to help prevent computers with unsafe configurations from connecting to a private network, not to protect a private network form malicious users who have obtained a valid set of credentials."

Bit of a disparity there ..... may be I'm just being picky on things like facts  Grin
