I've just received my new ECSA/LPT v3.05 courseware yesterday. I've not read any of it, just glanced through each book so far, but it looks great!

Here are the contents:

Quote
Books:
  • Courseware Manual vol. 1 - Modules 1-8
  • Courseware Manual vol. 2 - Modules 9-17
  • Courseware Manual vol. 3 - Modules 18-34
  • Lab Manual (apx. the size of one courseware manual)
5 CD's:
  • BackTrack v1
  • LPT VampireWare Beta v0.75
  • ECSA/LPT Bootcamp (ECSA Modules 1-10 docs/tools)
  • LPT Lab 1 (LPT Modules 1-10 docs/tools)
  • LPT Lab 2 (LPT Modules 11-20 docs/tools and misc.)

I was surprised at the size of the lab manual in comparison to the prior ECSA or the CEH. I was also surprised (and relieved) at the amount of books for the 34 modules. The total page length is 1,790 (not including the lab manual, apx. another 650). The materials seem to be written a lot better and seem to get to the point rather than filling in lots of information. As I read through it, I'll post more thoughts on it.

Hi Hero,

I don't really have any materials that I can send you. You should order the courseware from EC-Council (http://www.eccouncil.org/orders.htm). They do not make an E-Books for ECSA.

Hi BillV,

Am considering purchasing the material atm for the rest my department. BillV have you found the material to be persistently sound? I am figuring out whether its worth buying or not. atm I'm getting my team members to work for their CISSP and the younger guys their ECSA.

I am curious to know if there are any practice tests included also.
Appreciate your reply.

Hi chgio58,

First, welcome to EH-Net and thanks for posting! Smiley

The new ECSA/LPT courseware is much better than the previous courseware. EC-Council went through a different publisher and such to create their more recent courseware. The differences from CEH v4 to v5 and from ECSA v2 to ECSA/LPT v3 are huge. The material is written much better and you can understand it. Have the ones that you're wanting to order ECSA for taken the CEH yet?

I would highly recommend doing the CEH prior to the ECSA. The reason being is that a lot of the material flows together really well, and the ECSA is more of an "extension" to the CEH than it is different topics/subjects. CEH and ECSA together will also qualify them for the LPT designation.

There are no practice tests included, but there are lab books that walk you through doing many different tasks. The new ECSA lab manual is almost as thick as one of the courseware books. There is a lot of information and a lot of projects to work through.

Hope that helps,
Bill

Hi BillV,

Thanks for your reply.

Indeed my team members have so far done CEHv5 and some CHFI too. The course 412-79 itself seems to rather new as I haven't found any other material (as in books) around except the courseware from EC_COUNCIL. I have fired off an email to EC_COUNCIL re its purchase and as yet am still waiting for a reply in regard.

Thanks again for the info Wink

Not aproblem.

Yeah, you won't find any direct material for ECSA. Like I said, it's more of an extension on CEH than something completely separate. If they've passed CEH, they shouldn't have a problem with ECSA.

You should be able to order the courseware here.
