Check your DNS settings (name lookup failed).

Dear Ethical Hackers,

I think this is the right place to share my small tutorial written for IRC newbies. (This tutorial was originally written for my website and can be found at http://www.theadmins.info/announcements/beginners-tutorial-for-irc.html)

WHAT IS IRC?

From Wikipedia:

Quote
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of real-time Internet chat or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group (many-to-many) communication in discussion forums called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication and data transfers via private message.

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH IRC

To start using IRC we need a client application / interface. In this tutorial, we will use Chatzilla.

REQUIREMENTS

For the purpose of this tutorial, you will require Mozilla Firefox Browser.

WHAT IS CHATZILLA?

Chatzilla is an IRC-client written in XUL, bundled with Mozilla Firefox browser and one of the more popular extensions for Firefox.

HOW TO INSTALL CHATZILLA?

Download / Install Chatzilla from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/16/

Click on the Install button to start the installation

The installation progresses as shown below:

Once the installation is over, you will be required to Restart Firefox. (see the figure below)

Click on the Restart Firefox button to restart Firefox. Once the browser is open, go to Tools Menu and then click on Chatzilla (as shown below):

This will open up ChatZilla window as shown below:

Your IRC client is ready now.

HOW TO GET CONNECTED TO THE LSO IRC CHANNEL?

Type the following command:

/server irc.deepirc.org

and press enter. A new tab will be opened as shown below (the image is displaying another IRC Server - image given for example only):

Now to join lso channel (chat room), enter the following command:

/join #lso-chat

A new tab will be opened as shown below:

Now you are logged into the IRC channel for lso.

(the image is displaying another IRC channel - image given for example only)

Hope this was useful and solves all beginners problem getting connecting to the IRC Channel.

Regards,

Manu Zacharia, you are assuming I am using firefox and/or windows. I am using Kubuntu. And with their Konqueror web-browser.

Is there an IRC Channel for ethical hackers?

#intern0t at irc.freenode.org , if you are using SSL, use chat.freenode.org I think.

You can use the following web client as well: http://webchat.freenode.net/
