i dont know if anyone can help me but ive been hacked by a stalker, he phones my mobile after getting my number off my pc, turns my webcam on an sends sexual messages. i have phoned my broadband provider, my pc manufacturer and the police, they all pass the buck and no one seems to know what to do. even if i can learn how to get him out it would be a help, i dont know how much he can do. has anyone any ideas? i have a firewall and antivirus so how has he done it?

From what you describe, I would say you need to disconnect from the internet immediately! Remove your old hard drive and install a new one. Keep your old hard drive around just in case the hacker has done something very malicious from your IP address. That way you can prove you were hacked to authorities if they come knocking on your door.
The problem with advising you is not knowing the skill level of the hacker. If he is a novice or what we call a script kiddie and you haven’t updated your anti-virus in a long time, it could be as simple as that. But on the other hand if he is skilled and really owns your computer, you have no other choice than a complete reinstall of your operating system.
Also, try and think of what you might have done to allow him in. Did you download an attachment in an email? Did you click on a hyper link in an email? Things like that. It’s important to remember so you don’t repeat the same thing with your new installation.
This might seem a little bit more expensive than you might have hoped for, but lets hope this is the worst of it for you. Believe me it can be much worse.
One other thing you might want to do is put a credit alert on your credit report. The 2 worst things hackers are doing when they own a box is to either turn it into a zombie so they can attack or spam other computers or steal peoples personal information such as identity, credit cards , bank account information,etc...
So first step is stay off line until you resolve this.

Kev has given you great advice. I would also escalate your law enforcement involvement. If you have only called 911 or the police station you should concentrate your efforts by discovering which detectives are involved with Cyber Crimes. They should have two or three detectives devoted to your type of problems. If they don't help escalate it through their command. This is serious, so do not stop asking for a supervisor until you get one that listens to you.
If this does not work call your local FBI agency or the District Attorney in your area. They should help you.
Finally, if none of this helps bring in the press and tell them how unresponsive everybody has been to your plight. I guarantee you that all of the above will start beating down your door to help you.
Good luck and be safe,

thankyou very much for your advice, i have texts that he has sent to my mobile basically admittin what hes done as in if i wont add him back to msn he will have to be my shade an just look at me without communicatin (he turns my webcam on) obviously i now keep my cam turned to the wall. the only thing i remember doin is accepting his webcam when we first spoke for him to show me his art which he did as then he was ok, is it possible to hack on a webcam invite on msn? i will contact the police again today and ask for the cyber crime. i do thankyou for your help. luckily ive only just got this pc so no other details other than my name address and phone number was in here, (which ive now removed) so at least my credit cards are safe.he seems to only want to communicate but obviously if he turns nasty i suppose he could shut my pc down. thanks again for that advice.

Instant Messaging and allowing webcam connects are a favorite for hackers. That’s why I always advise organizations to not allow that other than internally. Years ago ICQ was the favorite to attack. You couldn’t go into an IRC channel without seeing lots of ICQ exploits being passed around. That program was so buggy that you could exploit it to allow yourself full access to the computer you were communicating to.
Your firewall will have no value because you have allowed your messenger access through it and that’s why hackers love it. Are you familiar with those old vampire movies? One of the rules about a vampire was he couldn’t enter your house until you first invited him in. Well, hackers are a little like that also, so keep that in mind.
This guy sounds more like a teenage script kiddie than a high level hacker, but I could be wrong. If you are not going to reinstall your operating system, at the very least reinstall msn messenger with the very latest version and reinstall your firewall. Make sure you have all your window updates and anti-virus updates. If your msn is out of date it could be vulnerable. I assume your firewall is not just the windows firewall. If it is, get something with more teeth. There are a number of very good free firewalls available.
I still say you should reinstall your Operating system to be safe, but if for some reason you can’t, then do at least the above. Sounds like Cutaway’s advice inspired you to take further action and that’s great! If you don’t mind, please update us here after you talk to the police and let us know how that goes. Good luck!

Hi, Please find below my original reply to you but got cut out when Don split the thread. I'm glad to see that in the mean time you are learning and getting good advice and hopefully this issue will be behind you shortly.

Hi beendone and welcome aboard. Firstly I think you should have posted this in a separate thread of its own. Perhaps Don can split this into 2 separate threads.
I'll try to answer your questions one by one (not necessarily in the order that you asked them).
i have a firewall and antivirus so how has he done it?
Well your firewall may be misconfigured and your antivirus may not be up to date. But what probably happened is that he wrote his own malware which is not yet identified by any antivirus and infected your computer either by social engineering (tricking you in to opening an e-mail attachment for example), or by session hijacking. He also might have a 0-day exploit for which your computer is vulnerable.
i dont know how much he can do.
He can do a lot. In fact he can do whatever he wants with your computer. In fact I'd go as far as to say that this is no longer your computer - IT'S HIS!!! He can commit any kind of cyber crime that you could imagine, from sending spam, porn (including pedophilia), threat mails, extortion, etc. he can plant as much evidence as he wants and you'd get the blame for it all. He could use your computer as a stepping stone to hack other places such as banks, government/military institutions etc. he could even make your computer into a DDoS master or zombie. I haven't even started on him stealing and using all your personal information from your computer (i.e. SSN, bank and credit details, surfing and shopping habits, reading your e-mails, etc.). Should I carry on..... no, I think you get my point by now.
has anyone any ideas?
Yes, firstly I find it disappointing that the police don't help you. They must have some kind of cyber-crime unit to deal with things like these. Any way the absolute least you can do is a full format of all your hard disks and a fresh install of the OS from a known good source. Preferably get a brand new hard disk for your reinstall. Chances are that your computer has been root kitted too, so I wouldn't dare restore any of the data from the old install to the new one in case you reinfect it. If you want to lay charges against this guy you'll have to involve the forensics guys from the police department, which you'll have to do before doing anything else to your computer. These are the same guys that'll have to identify the malware/0-day/root kit and help you sanitize it.
