Does anyone know of a pretty good network inventory program that's cheaper than Global Network Inventory but does close to the same job?

I am not sure of all the functionality of GNI but have you looked at Cheops-ng http://cheops-ng.sourceforge.net/?

Also, if you are in a Windows environment you might consider using WMIC and script something up.  MS explanation here: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/wmi_overview.mspx?mfr=true
and more detail here: http://www.ss64.com/nt/wmic.html

UPDATE:  I was just looking into the SpiceWorks post.  Is this the same type of thing as GNI? http://www.spiceworks.com/

I hope that helps,

I played with cheops a bit before, I don't think it gathered as much information but I'll look into it again.

I remember seeing that SpiceWorks post and go figure, it was one of the posts I didn't read =P I'll definitely have a look at that one today if I get around to it.

Thanks for the help Smiley
