Great!
First let me introduce myself.
Im denny come from Asia - Indonesia.
15 Minutes ago I was watching Hacker 2 : Takedown.
I got some part that I didnt understand.
"Normaly It was programmed to be phone but with a little modification it become a scanner" Mitnick said.
So Mitnick hold a phone, push some button (signed by "bib" sound) and then a phone become a radio receiver that record other cellphone conversation.
Help me with explaination.

First that movie describes those events very, let's say inaccurately. Read Kevin's book Ghost in the Wires it is much more accurate and your question is explained there quite extensively.
