61  Resources / News from the Outside World / Re: Cult of the Dead Cow makes an automated "Google Hacker". on: February 20, 2008, 05:01:07 PM
The online article warned that an IP block could happen.  You have to be careful I guess...wonder where the threshold is?

I tried a couple of dorks on my website (purchased through a hosting service).  As expected, I didn't get any results.  Either way, the scan was very quick and very easy to use.  Very fun tool.

This sounds very cool.  I'm about to take the Power Search with Google course offered by SANS.  I don't think they have a section on this tool yet.

It is very interesting what you can find with Google.  This cDc tool sounds like it will make searches much easier.

Thanks for the post g00d_4sh.

Thanks for the comments.  I've got a copy of the CEH Exam Prep book from 2006.  I will start from there.

Thanks again

My goal is to prepare for and take the CEH exam by the end of April.  My background is in PC support, but I understand basic computer/network security concepts.  I was able to pass the CompTIA Security+ fairly easily.

I am pretty motivated, and prefer the self study method than the fast paced Boot Camp style courses. I am interested to know how well the (CEHv5) Self Study kit will prepare me for the exam.

I would hate to spend over $400 and not get my money's worth.

Has anyone purchased the EC-Council self study kit for (CEHv5)?  I am contemplating buying it for $440.
66  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: What will a CISSP do for me? on: February 14, 2008, 09:40:03 AM
The CISSP is a requirement for the highest tier of Sys Admins within the DoD.  So if seeking (or wanting to keep) a job with the government, the CISSP will fulfill all of the 8570 requirements.

On that same note, I know of at least one large Contracting company who gladly pays their employees a $1,000 bonus for passing this cert.

Very valuable.

The Sybex PC Technician "Street Smarts" book has everything you will need.  This book has a very analytical approach and gives you step by step information.

It is available in pdf.
