1  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OSCP - Offensive Security Certified Professional / Re: Class Scheduled 6/8 - Linux n00b on: May 18, 2013, 08:25:23 AM
MTux - I'm great at using other people's code and editing it for my environment. In my work I've 'written' dozens of scripts in many languages that just take examples from many places and mash them together to fit my needs.

Would you consider being able to dissect any given language for simple programs enough to go forward without worry?

Yes should be enough, you do not need to know every language in detail  Wink ... Then, try to focus on the linux part, which is more important.

Regards.

You absolutely need to strengthen your linux skills - there's no way around, without those you will waste time working on small problems! A good, practical way to go: Throw away your Windows desktop, replace it with a Linux one and master your daily work  Wink - by this you'll automatically get in touch with bash scripting.

An additional language like Python (and/or basic C knowledge) is quite useful, but I think your time frame (until beginning of your labtime) is probably too small.

Your networking skills are a good basis and are more than enough to pwn through the lab/exam.

Regards.

Great news! I faced my OSCP exam challenge last weekend and passed on the first attempt with pwning all hosts in the exam lab  Cool. Although it wasn't as tough for me (personally) as I thought before signing up, IT IS a really awesome challenge for everyone who's interested in pentesting.

I'd like to thank EH.net at this point for all the helpful reviews and edge - information on this certification - the reason why I took this course!

You can find my review on my blog: http://www.inshell.net/2013/05/oscp-course-and-exam-review

I'm looking forward to my OSCE challenge  Smiley

9  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Malware / Re: help with man in middle attacks on: November 29, 2012, 04:51:27 PM
MITM attacks in their original form are mainly used for intercepting / sniffing traffic. So this could probably lead to a compromised administrative account on your local machine or your network, and this could lead to a lot of interesting behaviours of course. But you need to have some major "open doors" on your network for a MITM within your network to be successful. It's more likely that a single workstation infected with some kind of (keylogging) malware is the source of such a threat.

Anyways, it's hard to assess wether it's a real incident or just some kind of new gpo being rolled out without any further details ;-)

Regards.

I agree with m0wgli. Most of the providers have a "compliance with all laws" part in their ToS which basically says that you have to take care of all applicable laws and regulations from the country of your provider and your country. So your best bet would be to ask your provider directly.

As per default the windows firewall is activated and blocks any incoming traffic on all 3 profiles. If you want to exploit a machine you always need an open port for your targeted service.
