46  Resources / Links to cool sites. / Re: Free IT Courses on: March 22, 2011, 06:07:35 PM
I don't really want to sign up just to see what the free courses are but are the free courses full courses or just samples? And is there anything interesting related to IT security?

Besides...  Dunno about ya'll, but 90% of the tools I use on BT are 'command-line' anyway!  Desktops are nice sometimes, I guess... ;-p

I'll ask the obvious first, just to be sure Smiley

Have you generated your SSH keys with the " sshd-generate " command?
Can you successfully start SSHD " /etc/init.d/ssh start " ?
Can you confirm that SSHD is listening " netstat -antp | grep sshd " ?

My copy arrived a few days ago and I've read a few pages and skimmed over some random chapters/pages and so far, it's a very interesting book. I'm hoping to read the entire book soon and hopefully provide a detailed review.

Good links Data_Raid.  I'll have to go through them.  I actually put my CISSP studies on the back burner for a couple months.  I'm currently getting ready to get Crossfit Certified first, since an opening for the testing opened up back in my home city, which gave me a good excuse to head back to the states for a few days.

You're welcome.
Crossfit, nice! I've tried some of the CF exercises and they are brutal, great for keeping in shape though.
56  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Certifications - HR "Recognition List"? on: February 02, 2011, 11:48:39 AM
I thought I'd post some information about a website that is pretty useful for tracking salary and trends related to demand/certification, it's UK based but lists average salary for certifications by region and more: http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/

Here's a link for the CEH, if you scroll down you'll see the demand trend:

http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/jobs/uk/ceh.do

and CISSP: http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/jobs/uk/cissp.do

As far as HR requirements go for penetration testing, I'd say that the CEH is becoming more popular and recognised in the UK and surprisingly OSCP too. However, most UK based companies almost always request Tiger/CREST/CHECK certifications for pentesting.

CREST info: http://www.crest-approved.org/
CHECK info: http://www.cesg.gov.uk/products_services/iacs/check/index.shtml
Tiger info: http://www.tigerscheme.org/content.php?ID=2

The AIO book is one of the best CISSP study guides available imo. The self test software is also pretty good but nothing like the actual exam but it's useful for reinforcing concepts and terms. There are retired CISSP exam questions available from https://www.expresscertifications.com/ISC2/Catalog.aspx which realistically reflect the format of the CISSP exam questions.
http://www.cccure.org also has some great information like study tips for various Security exams such as CISSP, CISA, CISM and more. You can also take some free practice exams for the CISSP here: https://www.freepracticetests.org/quiz/index.php?page=register

Good luck!

I've removed the rapidshare link (max of 10 download limit reached) and I have added some additional links in my post above: http://www.ethicalhacker.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,54/topic,4571.msg35138/#msg35138.

Hopefully those links will suffice  Smiley
59  Resources / Career Central / Penetration Testing – Demand Continues To Outweigh Supply on: January 21, 2011, 03:14:34 AM
Barclay Simpson has released a market report for 2011 which mentions that the demand for pentesters outweighs the supply. The report also mentions various roles and the salaries associated with those roles. The PDF can be downloaded from:

http://www.barclaysimpson.com/document_uploaded/BS_InfoSec_2011.pdf

Quote
In 2010 the demand for penetration testers further outweighed the supply of available practitioners. The shortage was highest for CHECK Team Leaders followed by CHECK Team Members, and then unqualified but highly skilled penetration testers.

With the introduction of the CREST scheme in 2008 it was anticipated that the gap between supply and demand for CHECK Team Leaders would reduce. It did not.

No worries, the PDF will definitely come in handy for the OSCP  Wink
