Good luck to those of you who have registered I hope some of you are accepted. I've decided to give it a miss, I'll be banging my head & trying harder in the PWB labs. For those that do attend it would be good to hear feedback.

Actually it's a quote by Abraham Lincoln.

Yeah I know that, it's one of Muts favorites. Seeing as this thread is regarding OffSec and the quote refers to the importance of prep/planning it seemed fitting.

Or as Muts likes to say, "If I had 6 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend the first 3 sharpening my axe.”

Looks very cool. I'll have started my PWB session by then. If I'm not busy in the OffSec labs I may give it a shot.

I'm seriously considering taking the PBW course.  But I have a couple questions.

1) How old should you be?  I'm 17 and I'm wondering if taking the course would be a good idea.

2) System requirements and internet speed?  What should I have?

I've registered for my PWB session. Though the best thing would be to inquire with the OffSec team. I suspect your age might be an issue. Students have to virtually sign a legal agreement. Which could be problematic while you're still considered a minor. I'd suggest asking on the IRC channel: #offsec on irc.freenode.net

Any system that runs BT/Linux good enough for you. There is a BT VM image that's optimized for the course. As for connection speed. The official requirement is: "high speed ADSL or cable connection (512/256 minimum)" . As well as what's on the site: basic Linux skills, though good knowledge with Linux and Windows helps. Also solid understanding of networking & TCP/IP is key. Knowledge of bash scripting and language (python, perl) helps but not a must. You can typically learn enough during the course.

Just my two cents

The latest content announcement and syllabus look great. As does the final lab challenges, it certainly looks more real world. As with many others I'm really looking forward to signing up. Especially since I've wanted to take the course for about two years now. If all goes as planned I'll be enrolling in about two weeks time Grin

i was wondering this very thing. i watched a video at purehates blog, and it shows him using netdiscovery tool on BT3, well BT4 does not have that same tool.

With Bt4 in a shell using: netdiscover (or netdiscover -h) works fine for me. AutoScan is good too, for speed I typically use netdiscover

I agree with hayabusa. The way I read the changes, it came across to me like they haven't removed metasploit fully. Likely just certain areas they likely felt either didn't enhance the course much, or would lead to students getting to "lazy" relying on automated tools and scripts. Which as mentioned, typically leads to not fully understanding the process behind it. There's always the option of Metasploit Unleased. Which I'm sure goes into more detail then PWB anyway.

Of course that's just my take on it. Like hayabusa, I haven't done v2 tho plan to take v3 early next month. The only sure answer is to ask the OffSec team. But with Metasploit Unleased out there, I can't see there will be any real loss of material.

LT72884,

I would have hoped you'd have learned something from your post over at remote-exploit. From the looks of it I guess not. I wonder if you actually bought Tom's book or you "borrowed" a copy of that as well.

Yes it's certainly good to see a database back up. Though I believe Milw0rm will remain dead. The OffSec gang are taking over and continuing where Milw0rm left off. That's my understanding, could be wrong though.
