31  Resources / News from the Outside World / Re: InterN0T shut down by their hosting provider 1and1 on: November 30, 2011, 06:17:54 PM
Wow, that's new.  Though, I cannot imagine form a legal point of view that they are allowed to delete your domain since it is definately not their property.

I had a talk the other day with the customer support of another hoster concerning the termination of a dedicated server and I asked them what will happen to my registered domain - I wanted it moved to another webspace within the same hoster.  He said, that they cannot just "delete or move" my domain(even within the same hoster) since they need my written approval (or something similar).  I mean sure 1&1could forge a termination "in your name" at the IANA ... but then I guess you could write the them to complain.

On the other hand... as hard as it is... they are not forced to host your content... As you have already mentioned ... every hoster has their "get rid of anybody" clauses... especially like don also wrote:

...If it's a shared plan of any sort, then they may have legitimate worry that it could affect other sites....

so here I see no chance...

I am sorry for you.  Hope at least it works out for your domain.
Now I am glad I didn't go to 1&1 when I bought a new hosting package last week  Smiley

thx for the welcomes rance and don

@don I think the "greetings board" is a great idea.
It might also encourage other lurkers  Grin to step out and register.

You might also wanna ask user:24772433.
He seems to have had the same kind of problems when he registered for OSCP.

I have recently applied fror pre-registration to take the OSCP online course. I'm anxious to get started but I haven't had a reply as yet. It's been about a week ...

I would assume you will receive an email, for confirmation (maybe in spamfolder?) since you had to give your email address in the pre-registration... but sorry, I haven't applied there (yet).... So, I guess some folks here who have recently applied are of more help then I am...
In the FAQs it also says that you have "only" 24-72 hours for the registration process, but I guess this is not the case with your application...

@hayabusa glad you liked the link.

Hi Manikanta,

Next to "dive into python" what hurtl0cker mentioned, two sources for python I found helpful were:

1. A Byte of Python
http://www.swaroopch.com/notes/Python
-> basic intro to python

2. Learn Python the hard way
http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/
-> more for a practical basic intro to python

Just wanted to say hi to everybody,

After reading in the forums almost every day for quite some time now, I thought it is finally more then time to actually get registered  Smiley .

I’m really impressed by the helpfullness of the members here and wanted to say thank you for providing such a great and informative forum.

I am pretty much new to the it-security arena, having a strong interest in web application and network security.  So, at the moment I am trying to improve my skills in TCP/IP, networking, programming, Backtrack & tools, setting up a virtual lab to play with … and so on … with the hope to land a job in pentesting or something related after I have finished my masters in information systems (unfortunatly in the master we don’t learn much about it-security).  Any guidance or tipps on how you guys landed a job in it-security is more then welcome.

Due to what I have read here I also decided to sign up for the eCPPT at elearnsecurity.de (student+pro) shortly to set a solid basis to build upon. I am really looking forward to this hands on experience.  After the eCPPT the next hurdle will be the OSCP. But well, first things first… or how one says: “learn to walk before you run”  Wink

I am looking forward to read more from you guys, share ideas and learn from each other in the future.

Greetings,

Gromic

p.s. I wasn’t sure in which forum I can post this, because there is no “newbie post here Grin”  forum. Because I am interested in pentesting I have posted here. So don, in case I posted in the wrong forum (maybe forum:other  Huh ), I am sorry - feel free to move this post to the right location.
