31  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: My take on Defcon 19 on: August 10, 2011, 04:47:20 AM
Defcon was fun for me this year. It was my first time going. Next year i think i will follow EVERYONES advise. Less lectures and get more involved. I will most likely be looking to make a Open CTF  /  Forensics Challenge team for it.
32  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Experience vs Certifications on: August 10, 2011, 04:29:49 AM
I think certifications are very powerful when used correctly. Much like Masters Degrees, I feel people need to gain experience first then use the Cert/Degrees to augment their development. I hate it when i see "newbs" come into our company with a M.S. straight of or College and No experience. It is often much less effective because you don't have experience to reflect your learning's off of in your masters degree. Thats why it is called a Masters... you are mastering your field. you can master something without being involved. There is no such thing as a Boxer with no hands.

38  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OSCP - Offensive Security Certified Professional / OSCP - Time Commitment Required on: July 28, 2011, 04:41:11 PM
Hey Guys,

I am looking to take OSCP - PWB Starting late Dec. and I think i am going to do the 60 or 90 day course. The one thing that i see may be a issue is i work full time. and in Jan i will be starting my masters. I will be taking 1 class (most likely web app development. or programming java). Think i will be able to spend 2 hours for OSCP and 2 hours for School (more on weekends). I was looking for input from people who took this course how much time daily did you spend on this course. Does it take all of your time? Will Web App Devl  Class help with anything in the course (web attacks).

Also to let you know. I am a Network Security Analyst who uses alot of tools on bt5 and knows python,I also have my GCIA, GCIH, GPEN and will have my GWAPT before i start this course which means i will have a good base knowledge and things will come easier.

Any input on if this, good or bad idea would be great! i figure i was going to take 2 MS Classes but instead i was to substitute one with PWB.

Thanks in advance!

40  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / GPEN - GIAC Certified Penetration Tester / Re: Anyone taken GPEN/GWAPT in UK on: July 23, 2011, 08:24:09 PM
The Mentor program is very interesting, but I am qualified to Mentor 5 GIAC certs and I know if I got me for at least 2 of those 5 I'd be asking for my money back. I'll let you guess which 2. Go for SANS instructor led at a conference, OnDemand or vLive. That's my vote.

turner... i know GCIA has to be one of them.. the other i am guessing GAWN

am i right? huh huh?

For all the mentors out there:

Do you read the slides or do you produce your own material. Also how do you do the exercises?
