1  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Re: Do you get 3 chances to pass your comptia network+ exam? on: June 17, 2011, 03:51:40 PM
I was trying to look around google for the info couldnt find it must of not been looking with the right words i guess. And no its not for the class im talking about the accual comptia network+ exam. The class I took didn't offer a voucher.

Just to be a little bit more clear when i say take it 3 time I mean If you paid for it and failed it once you dont have to pay for it again. (3 time to pass it)
2  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Do you get 3 chances to pass your comptia network+ exam? on: June 17, 2011, 01:14:53 PM
I was told by my teacher that you get 3 chances to pass the compTIA network+ exam, however I'm not about to waste almost 250$ on the off chance shes wrong its been a long time since shes had to take it and our class is the first ones to be offered network+ in the school.....

So im sort of confused about it, I called the place I was going to make my appointment for and they gave me the number to call Prometric, then prometric said "I can't tell you without a voucher number". So now im confused. I need to take it monday I was going to take it today but thats not going to happen. I need a quick response so I can get this done quickly before seats fill up and I have to wait for Tuesday.

Also if I have to get a pay voucher does that mean im paying for the exam $230 -$250 plus the voucher?
3  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Web Applications / Need somebody to help that knows a lil bit about web design. on: June 11, 2011, 01:07:41 AM
Ok I own a website and Justhost.com told me this when I asked them (I after i tried figuring this out for hours... I'll add). Dear XXXXX,

I am very sorry, but we are unable to advise you on your request as we can only
provide technical support on our direct services such as cPanel, emails, FTP
MySQL connections and a lot of other administrative tasks. Please, turn to web
developers regarding this matter.

Thank you.

(Why did I pay them 4 years of money in advance again? Um, anyways on to my question)

How do I add a progress bar to my website? I already created one with Windows Visual Basic and it works I just dont know were to upload it to or whatever. I assume I have to go in the File manager but theres a million files there...... I feel very lost.

My website is www.myexuse.com if you go to the music selection you'll see that its loading buffering in the backround but its hardly noticable at all it looks like its doing nothing for a full 60 seconds before it loads the page.

Heres the code if it helps:

Public Class Form1

    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
        Timer1.Start()
    End Sub

    Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
        ProgressBar1.Increment(1)
        If ProgressBar1.Value = ProgressBar1.Maximum Then
            Button2.Enabled = True
        End If
    End Sub

    Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
MsgBox("Be Sure To Download Our ToolBar", MsgBoxStyle.Exclamation)
    End Sub
End Class

I have to cram hardcore I have no choice my networking class is only 5 weeks long.... no times for breaks lol. I started taking omega3 to enhance my memory even seems to have helped since i've been taking it. I'll get up and streach my legs once in awhile and eat food but unless im studying or sleeping im constantly reviewing stuff i've learned mentally.

I realize that the certification is taken from a pool of like 900 questions or whatever and assigned randomly. But I was more hoping to hear about the main points when some of the people took the test them self anyways.
5  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Recommended Reading for Networking on: June 03, 2011, 08:19:13 PM
I know 5 weeks just isnt enough time to finish this book and not enough time for learning all of networking but im really trying to. I wake up at 530am every day and start reviewing then usually at 730am im at my school (a hour early) studying new stuff then by 230pm im back home were I study until midnight. I dont even take weekends off anymore or watch tv or anything its just study study study because I know there ISNT enough time.

My Questions is What should I have a strong understanding for when getting my certification for Network+?

I know that a strong understanding of the OSI is a must and I've learned about 200 different aranyms so far (and still working on them). I've went pass what I should know for command prompt (PING, netstat, ipconfig, apr)
I know the main ports, 802 standards, networking topologies/devices. Theres more but it would be a waste of time to list everything and a waste of your time to read it.

So what are some of the main points that are VERY important in networking (concerning the certification)?

No Im not taking my Ethical hacking corse until into like mid next year or something but it is something i'd like to learn if not get certified in. Right now im focusing on my Network+
7  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Re: About IEEE standards 802.3ab -802.3z on: June 01, 2011, 05:24:31 PM
Ya i found that out later at school while i was researching it. My book left out the fiber part of the standard so I got confused. And its not just the cert I need to pass I need to maintain my 4.0 average so I actually do need to know all that kinda stuff lol. Anyways although I didnt get it the response time i still appreciate it im off to beef up on my network vocab and topologies
8  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Re: A few Questions about TCP data flow on: May 31, 2011, 10:48:09 PM
I didnt get a chance to look at it in detail really im studying like 16-18 hours a day (counting the time im spending at school) but this is one of the certs i want to get actually so i'll be sure take make the time to look it over good. Thanks.
9  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / About IEEE standards 802.3ab -802.3z on: May 31, 2011, 06:58:39 PM
Ok most of these standards are pretty straight forward and I should have them learned by the end of the day but I do have a few questions which I hope I can get answered before I go to sleep in 4 hours.

1000Base-T (1,000 million bites per sec base twisted pair) falls under both 802.3ab (1Gb Ethernet technology that runs over 4 pairs of cat 5 or better) and 802.3af (specifies PoE, requires cat5 or better)

Question 1:
Is just that I want to make sure 1000Base-T can fall under more than one standard. I haven't seen much standards except 802.2, 802.3, 802.5, 802.11, 802.16 and the ones im learning now so im not really sure..... if one thing can have multiple standards imposed on it at the same time.

802.3z is defined as 1,000 Base Ethernet technologies.

Question 2:
The book says that only 1,000base-SX and 1,000base-LX fall under this.... but what about 1,000base-T? Sounds to me that 1,000base-t should fall under 802.3z to but the book doesn't say it does.

802.3ae  is defined as 10-Gb Ethernet technologies

Question 3:
The book lists all the 10-Gb ones (10Gbase-SR, 10Gbase-SW, 10Gbase-LR, 10Gbase-LW, 10Gbase-ER and 10Gbase-EW), except for 10Gbase-T shouldn't 10GBase-T fall under standard 802.3ae?
I'm going back to learning the rest of these standards hope to get some help.

well i looked back in the book and it clearly DOES  say transport layer for the TCP (even though i could of sworn up an down the book said network layer) I probally just got it mixed up with what it said about the IP or something thats what happens when you only get 5 weeks to learn networking..... so much info so little time. I have it drilled into my mind now after seeing you guys say it so many times so I wont forget. Smiley
11  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Re: A few Questions about TCP data flow on: May 30, 2011, 10:06:55 PM
ok so the TCP resides on the transport layer but the accual protocol is a network layer?

since my post hasnt got much attention since its been moved... *bump*

The name of the book is "Network+ Guide to Networks" 5th edition
14  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / A few Questions about TCP data flow on: May 30, 2011, 11:46:00 AM
Hope im not bugging you guys with my questions yet. But I dont got school because its memorial day and I need some questions answered about the flow of data in TCP. I cant really afford to take a day off from studying.

1) TCP takes place in the network layer of the OSI right? So does that mean it starts at the network layer or does the data flow from TCP still have to start at the physical layer? The book isnt very clear on this point.

2) In the line header length, Reserved, flags, sliding window..... what is the reserved area used for all the book says is its for later use and hardly ever used.

3) In the line Options/Padding is it possible for both of these to be 0 bits at the same time? And if so does this line get skipped completely? Are the special options worth knowing about?

4) Under Data what is meant by "The size of the data field depends on how much data needs to be transmitted(this half i understand its the next half which I don't), the constraints of the TCP segment size imposed by the network type, and the limitation that segment must fit within an IP datagram."

thanks data raid i knew bits and parts of that but your explination helps me understand it alot clearer I think that about sums it up for this topic thanks alot guys.  Cheesy

you gave me exactly what i need to know to run my own little hands on lab. i needed to take a break from all that book learning so i'll turn my attention to this after i take a shower im covered in dirt from doing my grandpa's garden
