I've read on a lot of linux forums that SL is the closest thing to RH (even more so than CentOS/ Fedora)

291  Resources / Career Central / New job.. I drive 2 hours a day now..any good pod-cast to listen to? on: October 10, 2011, 08:59:56 AM
With my new job, I began driving between 90-120 mins a day. I feel like I should be using this time in some way. Are there any good pod-cast about security, networking, or I.T. ? Do you have any other suggestions to put on my ipod?

thanks

Thank you all for the replies. I still havent decided if I want to do LPIC-1 yet but I definitely would like to complete RHCSA and RHCE by the end of next year. I hear Linux+ is very big on command line, so that would definitely help me learn the command line better.

Also, I changed from Backtrack to SL for my 2nd laptop. A lot of people were telling me to get rid of Backtrack.

If they had the lab back in July, I might of picked DOJO instead of The Hacker Academy (which I will be doing a full review within the next couple of days). Also glad there isnt a charge for the lab Cool
294  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OSWP - Offensive Security Wireless Professional / Re: I passed the OSWP on: October 10, 2011, 08:46:01 AM
If you do decide to take the SWSW, we definitely would like a review. I would really like to get my hands on one of the wireless pentesting certs, but I kept hearing from people that OSWP is out dated, so maybe SWSE will gain some ground.

296  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Re: CCNA Advice on: October 10, 2011, 01:08:34 AM
This is how I studied for the CCNA.

- Lammle's book
- bought 2x 1720 routers and 1x 2950 switch (worked fine for me but I know a good amount of people who prefer more equipment)
- tried preplogic for a month (decent resource)
- lastly I used howtonetwork.com (very good resource if you can buy all the equipment you want)
- used a ton of notecards

Hope that helped!

298  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Experience vs Certifications on: October 10, 2011, 01:01:59 AM
I'm going to continue with everyone, yes certs will get you an interview..but once you sit down for the interview and the questions start coming out..they will know if you're legit.

I remember going in for my first networking interview..I had the Network+ and CCNA ( home lab experience) and to be honest..I thought I was going to kick ass. BAM all hell broke lose.

We started talking about my education and certs, then technical questions started. I think I might of answered 2 out 10 questions right. Yeah I have certs and decent knowledge of networking but I was put in place and realized I need actual experience not just certs.
299  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: I picked the wrong degree... or did I? on: October 10, 2011, 12:53:56 AM
Like most of you, I'm very interested in InfoSec and from reading hundreds of post, I think I have come up with a good plan.

Its a 18-24 month plan.
- complete BS in IT security
- complete MS in IA
- My current job title is NOC/ linux support; I think this experience will be great for a Info Assurance position
- certs certs certs
- after 6-12 months, Ill start doing some side contract jobs (to get even more experience
- keep reading Info Assurance job descriptions and try to get a good feel for what they are asking.

This is a great post. I'm still in college but my goal is to one day be a information assurance engineer. Just like every other college kid, I'm a little scared about not finding a job due to many applicants or just having the number of jobs go down.

How do you think security will change in the next 5-10 years?
