Some training providers have a guarantee, and they will let you retake for free, so if you are unsure you might want to go that route.

If it is a matter of certs vs college, certs are always going to be cheaper

I saw they didnt have the CCNA too. Did you try proprofs? They have some other sample questions, not sure about CCNA though

That is a good resource, I also am a member of dice.com forums, although they tend to be pretty downtrodden over there  Undecided

I found another one as well-
http://www.technologycerts.com/demos

You still have to sign up to access them, but some of the courses on the list do include
312-50 Certified Ethical Hacker
CISSP - Certified Information Systems Security Professional
640-553 - CCNA Security
SY0-201 - CompTIA Security+ Second Edition
SY0-201 - CompTIA Security+ Second Edition Lab

Theres a bunch of other courses too, havent tried most of them myself yet but I signed up for these, no problems and got a coupon to buy some stuff as well Smiley

If you really want to learn something, do CISSP. For the CISA you can study by yourself, and then pass the exam. I warn you that it could be very boring.

For the CISSP I recommend you to read once the Shon Harris's book, and then go to the boot camp. That way you'll benefit most from the boot camp.
Otherwise you'll get lost in the information you'll receive and you'll brain will start thinking at something else, seriously. Smiley

GSEC is another good starting point. You'll get some technical skills, not only theory.

The CISSP requires 5 years of experience, so it is not quite like getting other, less advanced certs, but is certainly worth considering.

As for affordability, there are a lot of places online for both the CISA and CISSP that you can get self study materials for very cheap, if you decide to go the self study route, which is what I prefer. I know Technologycerts has a deal on a lot of their training for like $100 right now, so anyone could afford to get certified/trained.

I have never tried their CISSP one but http://www.knowledgebuster.com has free practice exams for dozens of vendors
10  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: CompTIA.org, Testout, or CareerAcademy for training? on: March 23, 2011, 09:25:48 AM
For sure, there is no replacement for hands on and practical knowledge, but if you keep that mentality through your studies then you can gain the knowledge you need, not just to "pass the test"
11  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: How do employeres look at certifications on: March 23, 2011, 09:23:23 AM
Very interesting thoughts, I would not have considered keeping a blog but I can't imagine that it would be useful in gaining an advantage over other competitors. If there is a stack of 500 resumes on someones desk, having a couple solid certs could at least get your resume set aside for consideration. A blog would not. Just one mans opinion of course.

Ah, well first of all-good luck!
I myself use TechnologyCerts because they are much cheaper, but you are using your wifes money anyway so that doesnt matter  Cheesy
Career Saver has some great adaptive software and training materials that are well worth checking out.
KNowledgebuster has free practice tests-mostly just for bragging rights tho LOL

People have been saying for years "Oh, certs are that important, they are almost already worthless, don't even bother" but when it comes down to it, there is nothing else that compares to the value a cert will give you as far as proving you are invested in continuing education, on staying fresh in this ever changing field, and validating the skills you already have. Better safe than sorry...  Undecided
