362  Columns / Murray / Re: [Article]-The Failure of Hypnosis in Social Engineering on: May 09, 2011, 11:36:54 AM
Interesting subject, I look forward to Mike's follow-up articles!

I never actually put these 2 topics together until I listened to the latest "Skepticality" podcast the other day.  Chris Hadnagy (of social-engineer.org and "Social Engineering: The Art of Human Hacking") was interviewed and the topic of hypnotism was brought up briefly.  Chris showed skepticism toward hypnosis, but the host jumped topics and neither elaborated on it much.  I don't know much about hypnosis myself, but it seemed though as Chris had given the two topics some time and analysis before.  It'd be great if we could get Chris in on this conversation, too hehe.  Two big names in the infosec industry who've been concentrating on the social engineering aspect - it could prove to be a great conversation Smiley

P.S. I noticed the BSOD Wink

Good points ziggy and TheXero.  I wonder now, how does that Cisco config work?  I wonder how it implements that "wireless isolation."

It's analogous to VLANs.

I haven't even had time to ponder this thought lol.  Thanks dynamik Smiley

I think that'd be more of a personal choice and how well you feel about the material.  I would choose to study more and take the practice exams prior to taking the actual exam.  Going over that study material more will only help retain it better as you get further into your infosec career.  The practice exams will ensure that you're retaining it as you go through your studying.  At that point I would feel comfortable taking the real exam.

I would say you're worth more.  I'm a Navy vet too (IT2, worked on the computer side).  My first job out was a help desk job on the NMCI contract for $15/hr, but my only experience was 4 years in the Navy.  I didn't have any degree or certifications at the time of hiring.
369  Resources / Tools / Re: BackTrack 5 on: May 03, 2011, 01:02:03 PM
I use VirtualBox for my BT "install."  But then again, I don't use it for my daytime job at the moment - only on my test lab at home Smiley

Looking forward for what BT5 has to offer!

I've been looking for some other tech fiction to add to my collection.  Great review, sounds like something I'd enjoy!

There was so much chatter about those on twitter during Source Boston last week.  Looks like a fun little toy Smiley

Are you able to pass traffic between the two machines prior to attempting to exploit it?  If you are, that'll tell you that it's not an interface/routing issue, but something with the exploit itself.
373  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Hardware / Re: Dell Challenge For You! on: April 27, 2011, 11:53:09 AM
Have you tried contacting Dell?  As I understand it, the svctag.exe was only meant to work with certain models.  Maybe they'd have the proper utility for your specific model.  I've always found their online chat easy to use.

Microsoft's TechNet has some more good information regarding Domain Controllers and Active Directory.

The funny look may have been part of the interview - seeing if you were sure about your answer or if you'd backtrack Wink haha
