To be detected, this requires the malware to be known by the scanners.

Port 20 isn't just a TCP port.  A port is just a port.  Whether or not it accepts TCP or UDP is up to the daemon/application listening on that port (or the firewall filtering the traffic to said port).

I wonder how the class will compare to SecurityTube's Python class (http://securitytube-training.com/online-courses/securitytube-python-scripting-expert/), because I'm sure it won't be cheaper haha

That was one talk that piqued my interest when I saw the talks posted, but I won't be able to make it to Friday's talks

I haven't been able to dive into the VM's yet, but the file extension on the Windows one is "vmwarevm."  Have you tried using VMWare Player?  I think I remember seeing something about mounting VMWare VM's in VirtualBox in newer versions, but I haven't messed with that ability yet.
