16  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Web Applications / Re: Black box testing on a website on: May 16, 2011, 01:21:08 PM
The UK Cyber Security Challenge website is behind schedule this year due to the fact that the designers built a nice looking site that was 'about as secure as a wet paper bag' and thats a direct quote from one of the challenge organisers.

They now have two 'security' teams working on the site, one trying to secure it and one trying to break it!

Tried to do something similar to this a few years ago at one of my previous workplaces.

If I remember rightly we VLAN'd into the smallest lans we could get away with and rolled out the policies per VLAN giving it a week or so of monitoring between each rollout to see if anything fell over.

We got 4 VLANS swapped over and were running about 500 (out of 2500) machines and 8 (out of 20) of the servers before we had a major issue with the network (totally un-related) that stopped the change over dead in it's tracks.

Never did get to finish that as a new contract kicked in shortly after and all the workstations and network got ripped out and replaced from scratch.
18  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Mobile / Re: Corporate Security: Android vs iPhone on: May 07, 2011, 02:34:10 PM
I have never seen any AV for the Iphone but according to Apple no Apple products would ever get a virus.

Thats not the sort of thing they should be saying really as it throws down the gauntlet - Skype issue on the Mac

Not having an i-phone myself (am an android man) I'd ask what security/av software is available for the i-phone?
I know a few of the mainstream AV houses have produced stuff for android and the stuff on my phone has picked up one rogue app so far.

I cant stand Unity either!

Have disabled it.  Better not have it in BT5
23  Resources / Tools / Re: BackTrack 5 on: May 03, 2011, 03:23:15 PM
I'm greedy and I have BT4 as a dual boot (with ubuntu) on the laptop and the main OS on my 'other' PC (lower spec non gaming one).  'Other' PC still has enough guts to allow me to run two VM's at a time as targets.

I had a similar problem with another app and ended up sticking a 2nd network card in and buying VM Workstation so I could tie the VM's down to a specific card

lorddicranius, i've got an android phone (samsung galaxy) and theres an opt in/opt out for them collecting anonymous data on certain apps.  Doesn't mean they're not collecting stuff in the back ground but they do bring up messages on the screen when you use certain apps

30  Resources / Career Central / Re: Hacked off with companies on: April 15, 2011, 05:27:42 PM
and what don't help I work part time and the place I work is just so boring don't challenge me enough. Just nothing going right at the moment and I want go crazy lol
Know what you mean with that.  After umpteen years doing servers, running manic workshops supporting a lot of users and pc's and basically being able to get stuck into the hardware/ builds etc, i'm stuck doing info managment at the moment and it's driving me scatty.
Working on a crap project thats going to hand over the control of our hardware/ software to an outside company and basically end up managing user accounts/ setting permissions on data.
It's only the private pc repairs, my lab rig and a bit of online gaming that's keeping me sane atm Sad
