16  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OSCP - Offensive Security Certified Professional / Re: Hardware for OSCP on: February 02, 2012, 02:55:07 AM
As long as you can run a VM with about a gig of ram, you'll be fine.

It's not that heavily focused on password cracking, I even used my netbook in the lab some days Smiley

No offensive to how it used to look, but that's a real improvement and I love the new theme Cheesy

Did you design it yourself?

There are two different models of the 1005HA, one with at 1.6GHz and one at 1.8GHz which also includes bluetooth.

I got the 1.6 as I didn't need/want bluetooth, and yes they both have 3 USB ports.

Don't get me wrong, but it's a great netbook, and works perfectly but it's not designed to high performance so the password cracking can be a little slow but still achievable.

I've got the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA (Atom 1.6GHz NetBook)

It comes with an Atheros Chipset wireless card and everything works great out of the box Smiley

As long as you won't need to do any password cracking you should be fine with it.

24  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: 64-Bit Linux Swap Partition Size Recommendation on: December 13, 2011, 02:55:54 AM
To be honest, I don't even have a swap partition (I have 6GB of ram)

I've not had a problem with my machine unless all of the ram is used, then it just goes really slow for a few minutes until some is free

n3r, PWB/OSCP is a great course and I would highly recommend it Smiley

I have a video and write-up on the exploit development process which can be found on my website at http://www.thexero.co.uk/exploit-development/

I was proficient in the majority of tools on BackTrack (including nmap and metasploit) but there is alot more to break into a computer than just being able to use some tools.

If you get a chance drop by #intern0t on irc.freenode.net and we can set you up for my hacker CTF challenge and you'll see what I mean xD

Being proficient in Python isn't necessary for oscp, but it does help and personally I had built 2 exploits from scratch before I started pwb which definitely helped when it came to the exploit development modules Smiley

Jamie.R, you if want a go at my challenge, drop by #intern0t on irc.freenode.net and we'll set you up for the CTF which is currently running Smiley

Jamie.R, I would highly recommend that you see about doing PWB and OSCP.

Tools for everything there are readily available in BackTrack, may even be nmap scripts for it Smiley

28  Resources / Tools / Re: Has anyone used these tools Hoppy and sshtrix on: November 21, 2011, 05:30:25 AM
At nullsecurity we develop these tools as an improvement to existing tools whether it be faster and simpler to use and what not.

If you try SSHTrix out Jamie.R let me know what you think of it ok so we can look at improving it Smiley

TheXero
