61  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Programming / Re: How to learn PERL! on: October 19, 2011, 02:02:50 PM
+1 for Learning Perl, 5th Edition, a nice book to get started.

I didn't check for Perl but there might be some good videos here - http://showmedo.com/

if you are starting to learn some new programming language why don't you consider Python?? (Perl is a nice language but I am a little bit biased towards Python)
62  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: Metasploit: The Penetration Tester's Guide Vs Metasploit Unleashed/Megaprimer on: October 19, 2011, 12:02:03 AM
The book is perfect!! even though most of the content has been covered in "Metasploit Unleashed", it definitely worth the price.

Vivek's Metasploit mega primer is still awesome, waiting for his second series on Metasploit.

In addition, video series on Armitage & Metasploit by Raphael Mudge is really awesome, The quality of the content is very good.

63  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: For those new to using NMAP on: October 18, 2011, 11:45:16 PM
I finished reading "Nmap Network Scanning" book last month and now I'm practicing the techniques.
It is nicely laid out, this book is beyond just the usage of command line flags, at some places the author gets deep into usage of nmap along with tools like 'DIG'. to make it short, this book is what every book on security tools should be laid out like.

Another good book on nmap I can think of is :
Secrets of Network Cartography: A Comprehensive Guide to Nmap

and if you just want a kick start with nmap, consider reading:
Nmap-Cookbook-Fat-free-Network-Scanning

But by best bet will be Fyodor's book, no other book on nmap(or other security tools) can be compared with the quality of Fyodor's book.

Use the Verbose output option using '-v' command line flag or Increase the verbosity level using '-vv'

try using '--packet-trace' command line flag, this option causes Nmap to print a summary of every packet it sends and receives. This can be extremely useful for debugging or understanding Nmap's behavior.

67  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / How does one can do port sweeping... on: July 28, 2011, 08:45:47 AM
Hi

This might come as a total noob question but I always wonder how does one scan the internet, I mean like I was  reading the book "KingPin" abt max Butler where he finds a vulnerability in VNC installations and uses some thing called as Port Sweeping to scan the Internet for victims, he even gets into some high security networks.. So I was wondering how can one scan computers out side his network.
