@Novice Hacker

this link seems to answer a lot of ur queries
http://www.infiltrated.net/pentesting101.html

and yeah, learning about databases will certainly help a lot, good place to start would be, free classes by Stanford.
http://www.db-class.org/course/auth/welcome

I would recommend to start with TCP/IP Illustrated 2nd edition(Kevin Fall) or any good CCNA book for networking basics.

Leo and Dradis are two cool applications to manage the Pen Testing data.
I prefer Dradis for it's features and supporting outpt of many security tools. Ver 2.9.0 is out a copule of days ago.

I had that book "Practical Packet Analysis, Second Edition". it is a nice book, especially for beginners but it could have been even better. you can find official EHNet  review here: http://www.ethicalhacker.net/content/view/380/2/ . but for the price of 30 bucks it is still quite a good introduction to the topic.

Well they are two different things.. I prefer 'Forums' because we can post and read at leisure.
24  Features / Book Reviews / Re: Book Review: The Basics of Hacking and Penetration Testing on: December 16, 2011, 04:54:29 PM
I just have a doubt, I read some other Pen Testing beginners books like:

Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, 2nd Edition
Gray Hat Hacking The Ethical Hackers Handbook, 3rd Edition
Counter Hack Reloaded (2nd Edition)

I just want to know that what diffrence does this new book " The Basics of Hacking and Penetration Testing" make from the other books covering almost the same conecepts.

Interesting article about how Iran might have hacked the US drone.

@ Seen - my bad, I didn't mention. I was referring to "TCP/IP Illustrated, 2nd edition", it looks really promising.

and right now I am going through "Nmap Network Scanning: The Official Nmap Project Guide" it is beyond my expectations, the book is not just about using nmap, it is well organized. I am learning a lot from it.

@ l33t5h@rk - I have tried reading books in e-format but it's not for me. I prefer reading paper books, it helps to stay off the screen for some time and flexibility of noting some points etc.

I was checking the table of contents last day, I was really happy to see that there is a sub section of Attacks regarding every protocol, exactly 'mother of all the books'   Grin
28  Resources / News from the Outside World / Re: RQ-170 Drone on: December 13, 2011, 05:54:46 AM
the captured drone looks intact, that backs up the Iran's claim that they bought it down. it's hard for a malfunctioned drone to land so safely. but either way it must be embarrassing for US that their technology got into the hands of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.
29  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / Re: Ethical Hacking Career :Guide Me on: December 12, 2011, 01:15:44 AM
Hi BreakThesec

Welcome to EHnet  Smiley

Could you please provide some more details about yourself i.e the skill set you have, experience level etc. So that you can get more specific answer.

There are a lot of CEH institutes in Bangalore, but from my personal experience they don't worth the price. last time I checked(a year back) CEH training in Bangalore was around 25K INR but if you spare 6K INR more you can go for eCPPT or with 11K more you can go for OSCP, which in my opinion are far better courses with a high learning curve. Having CEH alone doesn't land you in a job(which is same case with any beginner level certification).

What certification you want to go for or what you want to learn, it entirely depends on what skill set you have, what you are interested in and what you are expecting.

personally, I haven't found any really awesome book regarding 'Python'

This is a nice place to start with,
https://code.google.com/edu/languages/google-python-class/

Currently I am reading this book,
http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Python-Mark-Lutz/dp/0596158106
it's pretty good but didn't cover any basics.

After that I want to finish:
