I'll give them that info.  This is really a great site that plugs you into some of the best training out there.  I don't use it enough.

I'm signed up for 508 at the Vegas SANS event in the Fall and I'm very pumped about the course.

Hey Don!  I read this and totally agree with it.  The root of the problem is developers are not trained to code securely.  I'm sure you've seen the posting on SANS about their Software Security Institute.

Those of us in the Security world know and realize these problems and sound alarms but many times, money becomes an issue.  Then something like the TJX thing comes up and blows up in their face and recovering your reputation from something like that will take years if it can be recovered at all.
4  Features / Book Reviews / Re: [Article]-Skoudis - Counter Hack Reloaded: Chapter 7 on: July 28, 2006, 10:01:04 AM
I just want to echo the previous posts.  I have read Counter Hack Reloaded, as well as other books Ed has written and his delivery is just great.  Going through his books helped me prepare for the CEH exam and would recommend you read these prior to taking the test if you are going in that direction.  Ed is a great teacher and recommend this as well as other works he has written.

I assume you are doing black box testing and you aren't sure if a honeypot is present.

I agree totally Kev.  Never can one guarantee a site secure. I'm pouring through books by Skoudis and others in the area of exposing attackers methods.  The problem is that things change so quickly, books are out of date fairly quickly.  Still a great education though.

I guess we will continue to have job security which I can't complain about, but we in security must continually educate ourselves because the terrain is always changing.

I totally agree with you Don.  I took the CEH exam first.  I'm going to get the Security + next.  Wish I would of done it in reverse order.

Hello.  Another newbie to the site.  I didn't go through a boot camp for my prep but the idea sounds like an ideal way of preparing for the test.  I studied many hours and passed my test on 6/28.  I have another class at the end of this month for CHFI.  In October, I'll be taking the CPTS class.

I've been a silent reader of the site and it helped me with other resources to prepare for the test.

I've been in security for about 2 1/2 years and enjoy it very much.  In 2004 I was able to attend a SANS confernece and I'm going to try and get another one approved for next year.  That was my first exposure to Ed Skoudis and his books are a great tool to learn from and his sense of humor is just fantastic.  My goal is to take his class that he teaches for SANS.

Thanks for the information that helped me prepare myself for the test and I will continue to be active on this board.
