Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Open Source and dot com (.com) domain name
|

Hi All,
I am planning to launch an open source security related project. Before registering a domain name, I was discussing the same with my colleagues and they mentioned that Open Source projects generally do not fall under the .com domain or they don't register .com domain (generally).
Is there any restriction on this? Does any one know about this? If i register a .com domain, will the project be out-of-the-place?
Links, references, opinions, experiences on this topic will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

RoleReversal - Not sure what exactly he used, but found it interesting so shared with the EH-Net community. Don - Yes it will fit into Hardware Hacking Board too - may be better than here. I didn't think of it. You can move the post if it doesn't fit in here. And Happy Weekend to all. Compatibility Note: This Hack is not tested under other versions of MS OS's - especially under Vista -

Resources / News from the Outside World / China defines Internet addiction an ailment
|
on: November 11, 2008, 01:39:45 AM

Internet addiction is on the rise in the world's largest Net market, and now Chinese doctors have officially defined it as an ailment.
Users who spend six hours or more per day online, and exhibit at least one symptom including difficulty sleeping or concentrating, yearning to be online, irritation, and mental or physical distress are classified as meeting the definition of addiction.
Being hooked on the Internet has been considered a problem in Chinese society as early as 2005, when the first clinic dedicated to Internet addiction opened in Beijing. It began accepting patients who exhibited dependency symptoms for those of substance abuse.
China also has "boot camps" designed to help addicts kick the habit by helping to change their routine.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Project about ethical hacking?

Hi All,
I think the scenario is like this. Brian is doing a Computer Application project and interested in Ethical Hacking (may be a project related to ethical hacking). And he has the following doubts about pursuing a career in Ethical Hacking:
- What is the educational requirement for getting an ethical hacking job? - Whats the Salary Range? - What would be the working condition gonna be like? - Advancement (Where can you go with this carerr?) - Whats the future? - Responsibility (Roles and Responsibilities) - The other benefits.
Hope, after re-phrasing, the question is clear now.

Well I think there are.
I once received a mail regarding an opening as an Ethical Hacker / Penetration Tester where I have to be present in the office only once in a week (or was it month - I don't remember exactly). It was more of an offline mode of working. But that doesn't mean I can be in an offline mode partying around.
The opening was more about being responsible for the security posture rather than working 8 or 9 hours a day on some pre-assigned jobs. So I think such job openings do exists.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: Creating the UK InfoSec / Hacker Con

Hey Dale,
First of all, let me congratulate you for taking the initiative. Even though I am not from UK, i really appreciate your efforts and wish you all the success and extend support.
One name that i would like to suggest is:
i-con (pronounced as icon)
The name doesn't directly depict a security term or technology, however, I feel its a unique and catchy name. Let me know your comments.
All the best.
