1  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Security / CISSP/Career Advice Needed on: August 21, 2011, 02:49:41 PM
Hello all:
I’m considering obtaining the CISSP Cert, and I'm trying to get ‘realistic’ advice concerning the opportunities/options that the CISSP would provide me.
I’m 48 years old, and I’m asking for any (brutally honest) advice concerning the realistic options that I have for securing a career in I.T. Security. (Probably Entry-Level)
(I’ve been with Comcast for eight years/Four of those on the Senior-Help Desk)
I currently have: Associates (IT) /Network +/Security +/Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and some experience with the OSCP. I found the OSCP to be very challenging.
Any thoughts/insight on the difficulty of CISSP compared to the OSCP or CEH?
I’m experiencing a sense of ‘urgency’ in securing a career, and am open to any/all options.
I’m willing to relocate/travel 100%/Contract/etc.
I’m looking into options such as: Incident Handler/Loss Prevention/Management/
I’m willing to spend a year (self-study) to obtain a CERT that will put me in the 50K to 70k range

If you have any advice/resources/etc., I would certainly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Michael
And yes, I really am an Ex-Circus Musician (Bass Guitar)

3  Resources / Career Central / Career-Path Advice Needed on: August 17, 2011, 03:11:53 PM
Hello Everyone
I’m seeking advice concerning a security-path career choice
Current CERTS: Network +/Security +/CEH/ (Associates in I.T)
I spent a few months on the OSCP, but have suspended that pursuit (temporarily?)
I just turned 48, and I am looking for a position in the 50k to 70k range (possibly leading towards management)
I’m trying to find a situation where an (older worker) can ‘get my foot in the door’
I am an avid learner, but I’m not sure if I want the /consistent/ongoing challenges of something like PEN Testing
I’m considering Security-Incident Handler/Loss-Prevention Specialist/positions
Possibly a network/system/security administration position

General Questions:
What CERTS/etc. could you suggest for self/web-based study? ($1000 range)
Any thoughts on these CERTS: ISC2 Associate/CCENT/Linux+/GCIH???
Any advice/resources/etc. would be greatly appreciated
Sincerely,
Michael
P.S. And yes; I am an Ex-Circus Musician (Bass Guitar)

5  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Dangers of TOR in the workplace on: August 24, 2010, 07:00:50 PM
Does anyone have advice/thoughts/insight on the 'potential' dangers of running the proxy 'TOR' in the workplace?  Hypothetically: 500 computers in an ISP environment?  Hypothetically: 30+ individuals running TOR for 'personal' interests.   Your thoughts/experience is much appreciated.
Regards,
       Michael
6  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / ucertify.com CEH prep test on: August 24, 2010, 06:31:38 PM
Advice/tips always appreciated.
I'm preparing for the CEH v6, and I'm using (among others tools) the prep test from ucertify.com ------ I have found some tools/terms in this practice test that I have not found in my other materials.
e.g. SnadBoy (Asterisk password revealer tool)
Is this an 'up-to-date' practice test???
Thanks for your advice.

Regards,
     Michael

Hello Everyone. Your advice/suggestions, etc... would be appreciated. I'm trying to find 'cheat-sheats' for the 'most' critical tools needed for the CEH Cert. e.g. gping, tcpdump (dumps), and log files. Thanks for your help, and have a wonderful 'Memorial-Day'
