Thanks, I know they are available on youtube, but I dont feel like dl'ing a bunch of random videos. Personally, I like what they did at THE LAST HOPE, recorded all the presentations and released them on DVD.

516  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: QEH (Qualified Ethical Hacker) on: October 22, 2010, 08:33:05 PM
Sorry to bring this back up, but being that I am looking at EH training at the end of this year, start of next year, I found this and wanted to comment.

I have spoken to Ms. Schneider about the SU program, and it does seem interesting. Goodness knows they would knot be the only company trying to take down the CEH crew. I agree that the site is somewhat confusing, and even a little deceptive.

For one, I cannot verify an addition to 8570, as a new revision has not been announced. The QEH is also supposedly 4011 approved, I have been unable to find any way to validate that info. Most sites have a press release from the NSA/CNSS available. I might ask her for this if I call and ask.

Now for the positives. Anytime training offers more updated and hands on training, its a plus. They also offer a free CEH voucher, which could be useful if you want to kill 2 birds with one stone, a Saint Vulnerability Exploit tool with discount code, and a Core Impact 8IP, 7-Day LICENSE FREE CD.

Ms. Schneider appears to be some kind of person in the field, I can find some info on her.

She also seems to have decent, realistic recommendations on LinkedIn. So, in the end, I don't know if I will look to SU for my EH training, I may do a combination of Self study and course material, so we will see. If I do chose QEH, I will defiantly come back and update.
517  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / GPEN - GIAC Certified Penetration Tester / Re: Passed GPEN – some comments (Sept 2010) on: October 21, 2010, 05:10:57 PM
Amazing that SANS2010 didn't look at the GIAC site, where it tells you you can get the tests with a challenge registration. Now I will give you that there may be a communication barrier, but The word "dump" is very well known in the IT field. I'm sure someone with your experience is very aware of its usage.

As for individuals who buy and upload them, while I have my own opinions on the issue, it is illegal, and I'm sure you would be aware of that, had you done your research. In addition, I wouldn't call him untrustworthy, had you pm'ed anyone else, they probably would have done the same, or simply reported you to SANS.

Enough ranting, here's some advice. Go to the GIAC site, see if they have exam objectives posted on there. Find material that can help you master those objectives, and study those until you are either ready to challenge the exam, or have the funds to purchase the study material.

Not yet, I tried the online chat, but I don't think they have the correct link set.

Does anyone know exactly when they are launching their student level pentesting class, or indeed, have any information on what will be covered, how it compares to the PRO?
521  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Infosec Intitute & Intense School on: October 12, 2010, 06:31:49 PM
I know this is an older topic, but thank you guys so much. I was preparing to go with the 10 day IS CEH/CPT/CEPT boot camp. While I have an Sec+ knowledge, I am no coder, and I definatly don't have the knowledge required at that level.

What advice would you guys give for someone wanting to get to this level? A roadmap of sorts?
522  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Security / Re: Info Sec Education Track on: August 16, 2010, 03:18:05 PM
If you are dead set against A+ you could consider other A+ level certs or you could do a microsoft cert. You could hurry and get the MCDST before it dies out, and do a Win 7 cert to show that you can upgrade your skills. The LPI exams can come afterwards, because unless you plan to get a linux position, most general IT job filters are not likely to catch them.

Thanks, Well, I already have the Pro Pentesting book, and I was working with it, but two things are standing in my way, One, lack of dedicated time. I just finished a six month job training course that had me covering everything from vista, server 08, to UNIX, and security+. Two: too many books! That book is one of about five or six I have been trying to read while studying for other certs. I am hoping that over the next month I can focus on one area at a time. In fact, i'm starting right now!

Thank you all for your welcomes, and your input. This is obviously something I am going to think long and hard on.
