421  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / Re: EC-Council and CEHv7 on: January 24, 2011, 08:31:50 AM
First and foremost Bill, Thank you for sharing the update info with us.

Secondly, it seems like v7 will be a marked improvement over v6, I would be interested in seeing the changes, though I hope to knock out v6 before March so I can focus on SANS moving into the later part of the year.

Thanks very much again!

Crap. I'm swamped at work until at least April. And I just ordered the CEH Study guide....

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the info, I have set it aside for later, once I get a linux PT box set up. Are you familiar with any ways to do the same on Windows? Im fairly sure that proxychains is *nix only.

Hardcopy. Sometimes it's just easier to switch off and read a book than to work online.

(and I get less grief from the missus for sitting reading a book, than sitting with a laptop on my knee 24/7 Wink )

Agreed. Thats why I just purchased the CEH Study guide when I have access through books 24/7.

Crap. When will this overhaul of the CEH be released? I'm studying for it now, but i'm getting delayed because of work.

Also, do you know if they ever decided to seriously look into issuing ID cards for the non LPT certs?

You should do a review of both tests, the CEH and the ECSA. It sounds like a step backwards, but will you be doing the ENSA?
430  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Wireless / Re: What if I am forced to use WEP? on: January 15, 2011, 07:38:37 PM
What about setting up two routers? yours uses wireless and has WPA2, one port on the router hooks into her router on the WAN port and hers is configued for WEP.

Just an Idea.

I believe the answer to your question is above.
432  Resources / News from the Outside World / Re: Trend Micro chairman says that Open-Source is more vulnerable on: January 15, 2011, 07:31:10 PM
we've heard this argument before, the problem is that I have seen very little evidence to support it. History shows us that major players with large market share are most likely to be attacked. Crackers dont care if your product is open source or closed source, they'll find the vulnerabilities and exploit them.
433  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Vulnerability Explanation on: January 14, 2011, 04:45:28 AM
Forgive me, i'm obviously missing something, including perhaps the use of the -g switch, but didnt the OP report that port 80 is open?

It looks to me like they tried to prevent access to the server from if the source port is not 80/ destination port 80.

Of course the vulnerability is that if the source port is spoofed, your policy has been bypassed.
434  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: GCIA on: January 13, 2011, 09:54:21 PM
I would take a look over at techexams.net, I know there was a recent topic from someone who took it.

So can someone explian the differences between the GCIA, GCIH, and GPEN?

not that bad actually. I worry more about the laptop's processor than the hdd. I upgraded it to a Athlon 3500+ it runs hot but fine, i did however have this drive, not the 72k overheat on me the other day. weird, i know.
