Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / DoD Directive 8570

Hello,
I have a fast questioni regarding the DoD 8570 implementation. I have googled and even read a pdf of the 8570 directive but could not find my answer. According to the 8570 document I read, a Level 1 Tech must secure a computer environtment (CE as per the document). A level 2 Tech must secure a network environment (NE as per the document) and a level 3 Tech is an expert at both CE and NE and additional tasks.
I would eventually like to work for the government, specifically Information Assurance, and I was wondeirng, does a level 3 certification supercede a level 1? Let's say I don't take the A+ or Net+ Cert. (Level 1) but have the GCIH (level 3). Would I be eligible to level 1 jobs?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
Regards,
seven.

Resources / Looking For Work / College student looking for Internship, Volunteer work

Dear Reader,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I will be holding my B.S. in Information Technology this coming December 2010. I am looking for any kind of work in the security field, whether it be volunteer, non-paid internship or just helping you setup a lab. Basically, anything to get my foot in the door. I currently have a 3.4 GPA and I live in NYC (Queens to be specific). I am able to travel reasonable distances around the area for work. I have very flexible hours: 40 hours a week starting in June, with the exception that I might have to work a different job if this is a non-paid position to pay for essentials. During my final semester, starting in August, I have classes on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 5:30PM, so I can work any other day or before those time; same exception applies that I might have to do some other work for income.
I have a deep passion for security and have taken it upon myself to further my education with independent research outside the scope of collegiate assistance: such as currently studying for GSEC and other Industry certifications.
Please feel free to reply or PM me for more information such as my Resume and/or Cover Letter.
Thank you very much for your time in reading my post. I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Mike

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: SANS Training?

Thanks guys! Well, I don't think I'll be able to pay for any of the courses or the self-study. It's pricey paying for that, given my current situation aka broke college student. So what I've been doing so far is looking at the bootcamp and learning as much info on the topics from other sources. I plan on making mini tutorials (cause I learn better teaching) and hopefully people can advise me if I'm missing something I should be looking at as well as hopefully help other people who cannot afford the training material.
I read earlier that Dynamik did a "challenge" and he passed both the GSEC and GPEN. While not as knowledgeable as him, I'm sure if he can do it without the course, so can others with determination.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / SANS Training?

Hello all,
I have a question regarding SANS training. I see that some of the courses involve mp3 files and a book. These mp3 files are from live sessions of an on site training event. Now, are studying the mp3 files enough to pass the exam or should I read the book thoroughly as well? I mean, if these sessions were taken live (and over 6 days) I'd imagine the students taking the live session don't have time to read 1,000+ pages (or so I hear is the size of the books). Thank you for your time.
Regards, 7.
