Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OS / Re: DHCP Lease time

Very true: virtual machines have a habit of inheriting certain settings from the host machine. Especially if/when you don't want them to. I suspect this is what's happening in this case with dhcp settings / static ip. (PS if you choose a static ip, be sure to choose one that's on the same subnet but outside the dhcp range, so you don't experience "duplicate ip address" problems).

DHCP in general, assigns ip addresses for a specified period of time, usually from 1 to 30 days. When the lease is about half used up, it sends a request to the server, asking if it can renew its current address. if the address is still available for that user, then the request is granted.
If you have dhcp lease time set to 3600 seconds (1 hour), that is IMO really really short. Do you have a reason that you want to generate all sorts of traffic asking to renew ip addresses every 30 minutes? I guess i could see if the network is wireless at a coffee shop, but for most businesses and home networks, 3600 seconds is really short.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Web Applications / Re: How to test if website is writable

@dreams3577 I realize that your original question is how to tell whether your website is"writable." I agree with the others that the entire situation is phishy (pun fully intended). Certain versions of IIS are vulnerable to having pages dumped into the root directory. I don't remember all the details, but if your IIS is configured to use index.htm (or index.html or default.htm or default.asp etc) as one of its preferred default pages, BUT any of those pages does not exist on the site, it is vulnerable to having someone dump their "you have been hacked" page into your IIS site. Which means someone goes to www.yoursite.com and sees "you have been hacekd" instead of "welcome to yoursite." The solution to this is, best I understand, to clean up the default page settings from within IIS. In server 2003, open IIS manager, right click your website name, choose Properties and go to the documents tab. HTH.

Oops, i should read the entire thread. you are right: the usb connection normally just allows access to the sd card.
This might get better results: go into the settings and turn on usb debugging and allow installation of nonmarket applications. USB debugging is found under Settings - application settings - development. The phone will probably complain about this (mine does, quite verbosely), but your clockworkmod might work better with the usb debugging turned on.
Good luck.

Hello again,
I am currently working in IT for a nonprofit company. Being in a one-person IT shop, security is one of the many hats I wear. I have always been intrigued by heroes who use their knowledge for good. ("With great power comes great responsibility.")

Hello everyone, I've been a member of EH-net for a few years now, and I suppose I should finally stop in and say hello. Especially if I want to win a prize giveaway! I found your site, if I remember right, from a web search (before the peak of google) for something like "security certifications." Glad to meet you all.
