I understand why both are live courses right now. Reading the AWE description, it's deep enough that it should be instructor led. I'm sure even the best folks have lots of questions, best asked in person. As for the Web Expert class, it's new, and they probably want to guage how well folks do, and refine it a little, before considering whether or not to go to web-based / e-learning. Plus, for both courses, it lets them stay current with new and emerging threats, rather than having to change it up frequently, as they can quickly add a new threat model into planning for live sessions, rather than recordings. (That said, I still hope they go to an e-learning version, at least for the Web Expert, at some point in the future... ) You are probably right, but i think a web app online course would be an instant hit! @aweSEC: thanks! (missed it somehow?). and no surprise, its impressice!

I never participated in one, but i am currently helping setting up the CTF for HackintheBox 2012 Amsterdam. I can not give you any pointers on how to prepare for such an event, but i would say figure out what the focus will be. Normally it is all about hacking boxes, but sometimes there will be a lot of other challenges as well, like binaries, maybe even "low tech" challenges (last year we had some lock picking challenges which were worth quite some points.). Finally, if you are about winning, be sure to enter as a team. More people know more and you can multi task, which should get you faster through challenges. Good luck and report back with your experiences!

Resources / News from the Outside World / The Pirate Bay Blocked in NL!

Maybe you have heard it already, but here is the deal: Some judge in the Netherlands decided that it would be a good idea to let some ISP block the pirate bay. TPB will not be available through these ISP. One of these ISP have already filed a new appeal, so it will probably be postponed for a while. Giving the fact that the Netherlands are all about freedom of speach and internet freedom, its quite a shock to see this happen in europe, let alone the Netherlands. also when we look at the verdict we see the word assume, which is not quite how the legal system works (we need proof if i recall correctly) even TPB responded on the issue:
