Very nice! I wonder when/if they will release some more details about the exploit.

Sweet! I wonder if there are any new cool tools  Cool

Thanks guys  Cool Hmm where to start.. I guess I'll be looking for some vulnerable VM's to download and practice on.

During my PWB lab-time I took lots of notes really. At this time I can't afford extra lab time, so I hope I can get the much needed practice by pen-testing some VM's. I've done the De-Ice disks, and DVL. I hope there's more out there  Huh

Wow congrats j0rDy! It's good to see that you passed the exam! How many tries did it take you? I know we both failed it at least once lol. Hopefully I'll feel ready for my second try soon.

Congrats again!

Uhm, so it has been a while since a last posted. I've been meaning to do it a while ago. Things kept coming up, I'm sure many people know how that goes. I had no intentions to stop the hacking or visiting this forum.

Many things have happened to me lately, like getting a job. Though I've still been struggling with d*mn college and some other stuff. I've been doing development mostly, but I'm starting to see it's not the direction I want to go. I will try to apply for a job in the IT security field soon.

I intend to finish the PWB course I had won a long time ago. I'm still thankful that Don choose me to be one of the winners. So, hopefully I won't let you guys down and pass the exam soon.

At my job I'm allowed to do some pen-testing stuff, so I'm getting back into the game more or less. Though the PWB labs have been so long ago, and I'm not sure where I can practice penetrating machines to prepare me for the exam.

So I guess I am back Tongue

Appreciate the comments guys! I should have lots of free time soon so I can concentrate on this 100%. The only thing that annoys me know is that I really wanted to pass it on the first try, and I didn't. I should have scheduled my exam for about a 2 weeks later. Or maybe even started the course later, because I knew from the start that I would be busy with other things as well.

Though, I feel more confident now that I can pass it, because I know what to expect. I didn't make it last time, but I know I could have. So with a bit more practice and especially time management I'm pretty sure I will pass!

Ugh....guys I failed.

I concentrated on getting the machines with the highest point values. The first one was kinda easy..though it took me a long time. The second one I managed to get a low priv shell on. This got me so frustrated that I kept trying till there was no time left for the other machines. Only managed to get some command execution on another machine.

Though, I did sort of better than I expected. I've been really busy as I mentioned before..and probably am close to a burn-out. So with a month of no practice, I think I shouldn't feel too bad about this.

I'm not really sure when I'll be ready for another try, but I'm glad I didn't give up at any point. I only had like 3 hours of sleep and took very short breaks. I know that next time I just have to manage my time better, and I should be okay...at least I hope.

Hey guys!

I've been away for a while..being very very busy. Just finished my report for my internship yesterday. And now my OSCP exam starts in like 2 hours! Unfortunately I've been so busy that I haven't really prepared and I've just started on writing the report.

I'll keep you guys informed!

Aww that sucks j0rDy! I think this course is a bit too hardcore for the not so experienced people. And actually I'm getting a bit sick of that "Try Harder" stuff. This course would be much more valuable with a few hints here and there.

Some machines were really difficult for me. I've tried harder and much harder but it just wasn't enough. Then luckily I did get a hint for a fellow student, and I was able to hack the machine. Maybe it was a bit of a spoiler but I really learned something from it.

My exam was supposed to be today but due to some personal and work related issues I had to re-schedule it. It's set for the 30th of October, which gives me plenty of time to prepare. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to pass though, but hey I learned a lot, and I'm going to keep learning.

I've used it on my home network. Brothers started complaining about lag and stuff, was kinda funny Tongue  Also tried it in the CISCO labs at college once but no one noticed it.

I found some nice linux privilege exploits that seemed to work on lots of the machines

Do you feel you can share them? Are they general privilege exploits or too specific for the OSCP lab?

Most of the exploits I used came from exploit-db.com

Linux Kernel < 2.6.36-rc1 CAN BCM Privilege Escalation Exploit:
http://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/14814/

Linux Kernel 2.6.13 <= 2.6.17.4 sys_prctl() Local Root Exploit (3):
http://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/2006/

There's also another one which I can't find at the moment, something like ext4 exploit. I think it was this one:
http://xorl.wordpress.com/2010/01/01/cve-2009-4131-linux-kernel-ext4-ioctl-insufficient-checks/

I'm going to grab as many kernel exploits as I can and sort them by kernel version. Hopefully will speed things up when I'm doing the exam.

Little update!

My lab days have officially ended! For some reason I still have access to the labs and actually rooted a few extra Tongue

I've found all networks and got 1 machine in the admin network, though I got some help with that Tongue I was working till 3 am on my last lab day to get in! Maybe good practice for the exam lol.

In total I've pwned 20 machines, which probably is more than enough. I feel more confident than before. I found some nice linux privilege exploits that seemed to work on lots of the machines.

I've scheduled the exam for 25th of September. I have this weird feeling that I'm not going to pass, but oh well. I've really learned a lot lately, so it's all good Cheesy

Now I'm just going through the lab guide and video's again. Still have some extra mile exercises to keep me busy.

I'll probably do a review after the exam, or sooner if I can find the time.

That's too bad Sad Well at least you learned something from it and were close to passing.

I also have trouble escalating privileges usually. You spawn a shell and think you're in, only to realise you have to hack it again to achieve the goal Tongue

Keep going and hopefully you will pass next time!
