1  Resources / Career Central / Bridging Courses on: January 22, 2013, 04:40:44 AM
Hi,

I am currently enrolled to do 2 different bridging courses at the same time. Does anyone know if that would be too intense? I am working full time, and can only do the studies out of business hours.

Both are 4 units long, with 2 units per course each semester.

Both courses have the first 2 units as 'foundation units', then the
second 2 are Math.

So it would be half of year of rubbish, then a lot of math second half.

Any thoughts?

Now I am enrolled to do 2 bridging courses, 1 at 2 different uni's. So theoretically that is supposed to bring me up to a level where I can do the required Discrete Mathematics for CS.

I have also taken advantage of HackingDojo's New year rates, and signed up for the Novice course.

I am still undecided about which degree would be better. I guess I will wait out and see how my Maths bridging courses go.

Thank you for your response Unicityd.

I am 35 and haven't touched math for nearly 17 years. I am working full time in more of a communications role, but have got some basic IT skills, some personal progamming experience, etc. It would take probably a good six months minimum for me to get up to the required math level for a CS degree (I believe). It just means I would have to concentrate on that one area for a while, before commencing/attempting the degree. I do not believe I would have any serious issue with any other unit of a CS degree, other than the math.

If I took the Bachelor of IT, (I am hoping to do a Diploma of German on the side), at least I could do some other, more specific pen testing stuff on my own. e.g. HackingDojo/elearnsecurity etc.

I just can't really justify to myself that it is worth investing so much time into learning math again, if it will only serve a small (?) part of my future direction.

I am till enrolled currently in a bridging course to (hopefully) bring me up to a uni level math knowledge. Maybe I should just complete that first, and see how I feel next year.

Thanks heaps for the reply. I appreciate it.

Hi,

I am looking to start a uni degree via distance education, as I work full time.

I am considering either Bachelor of Computer Science or a Bachelor of IT (majoring in network security).

I am not overly big on math, but could try it if I had too.

I hope for a career as a pen tester, so which course is recommended.

Edit:
Is it a stupid question? Does it really matter which degree? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
