Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Red Hat Certs

So has anyone found it to be DIRECTLY helpful in either getting a job or on the job. My instructor said that if I were to get RHCE that the only choices I would have to make is where to work and figure out what color Porsche I want. I am not truly relying on this cert alone. Just trying to figure out how much weight it actually carries.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Red Hat Certs

I am set to take the RHCT (Red Hat Cert Tech) cert this summer and the RHCE (Engineer) at the end of the year. Have not noticed anyone on this site with either of those or any Red Hat mentioned. I will not be working on Hacking just yet, am getting my BS in InfoSec. I might one day advance to hacking and such.
Just trying to get some feedback on what everyone thinks about these certs.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Cyber Warfare / Re: Insurgents Hack U.S. Drones with $26 Software

A lot of presumptions were made in the responses. The information was capture on the down link. The connection to the drone has always been encrypted as to not allow anyone to gain control of the drone. The video stream coming from the drone however has been known to be unsecure since the 90's. It was thought that it would be more hassle than it is worth to share keys with ALL of the people who need access to the stream.
That said it is not the video stream that is captured that is that big of a deal. It is that they were able to capture it. To the insurgents this is a big win to simply be able to say that they tapped into a MULTI MILLION dollar military system by the big bad all powerful U.S. with a $26 russian napster program.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: Getting Started - How to Get Into Hacking (as a hobby).

If you are interested in this as just a hobby you may want to start by getting a Sec+ book from Amazon or somewhere. Then study some Net+/CCNA stuff. By the time you are done with these two things you will have a good understanding of how networks work and how they are affected by outside things and should have a good idea what you need to do next.
You could also look at your local Community College for these same classes. I am currently enrolled in a 4 year university for Information Security as well as Information Technology. But there are not many 4 year schools that offer IT/IS stuff and Comm. Coll. is cheaper if you just want to learn.
