76  Resources / Links to cool sites. / Re: Down the Security Rabbithole - Podcast by Rafal Los on: October 25, 2011, 08:32:29 AM
This is pretty cool.  It is so true that you have to find that balance from the business goals and security.  Thanks for another good podcast to listen too!
77  Resources / Career Central / Re: GPEN & GWAPT & GAWN or Bachelor degree? on: October 25, 2011, 08:10:04 AM
You probably have already decided but I agree with the second choice, Bachelors.  It will help in the long run even though people argue the contrary.

You could also use vconfig which I think is included on the later versions of Backtrack by default.  It was also a technique used on one if the Skillz challenges here at EthicalHacker.net.  It was a very cool challenge too.  That might help you out.  I would use wireshark once you have added the tags to your interface to ensure you are seeing what you need to.

79  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / Re: Passed the CEHv7 on: October 22, 2011, 02:01:37 AM
Also, I was just curious if the exam included more than multiple choice?  Did they add hands-on techniques now??  It says they have iLabs now so I was not sure if that meant you had to connect to virtual machines now.

81  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Programming / Re: How to learn PERL! on: October 19, 2011, 02:46:02 PM
I did use the Learning Perl book too which I thought was pretty good.  I think it some errors in it and I had to find the errata on the site a lot.  I usually ended up doing a lot of regular expression scripts tho.
82  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Security / Re: CEH = Exam Fee $500 + $100, Will you attempt it? on: October 19, 2011, 02:42:27 PM
I don't want to say anything bad about the certification itself (I dont recommend to go after it either), but I can't get to the bottom of this big price raise in fee for the certificaiton. And the excuse that this much fee will thwart non-serious juniors from attempting it does not make any sense, they could have just added extra $100 on top of the old price to do this. But what extra/revolutionary change this certification brings or can bring in one's information security career? I cannot figure out the justification for this move (which in my opinion is just aimed at looting and then forcing candidates to pay a tip of $100 on top  Angry   ). How can they justify this raise? And please don't come up with something "It is their certification and they can do whatever they want", although this can be an answer but does not help in dissolving the impression that this is purely out of their greed and has nothing to do with the quality or value of this certification. Almost all of us do not have any problems with the fee of SANS GPEN or OSCP as we know the quality and value of those certs ... but CEH!!! Man com'on! I dont know why but I really want EC-Council to come out on this with some good argument!

Will you attempt this cert even if your employer pays the bill for you?

(My answer is a big NO, I don't want my employer's bucks be wasted in the name of a cert like CEH, but if its is priced at around $300 well then may be I will go for this  Smiley  ).

Exactly. That says it all.  EC-Council, the floor is yours...
83  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Question with SNMP Enumeration on: October 19, 2011, 08:34:30 AM
I would agree with lorddicranius.  Ensure that the snmp version is 1 and not 2c or 3. You could use nmap (NSE) scripts to help.   They have snmp scripts that might help you out.  I think they even use some form of snmpwalk in the scripts anyway.  Hopefully that helps.

where exactly did you guys go to school? did you'll go to a small near by school because I have rarely hear of people going to any university bigger than pheonix university and i have never heard of a person mention Cornell University(this is the university I which to attend.), which is known for more than liberal arts;they have a well developed computer science program.

Graduated from Drexel Univ. and of course now they have all new buildings and actual security curriculum.   Angry

Exactly and the small companies are the ones who cant really afford to have pen test.

It is that point that made me wonder if there are PenTesters that do pro bobo work for the small business?  Or is it the high profile pentesters that do side work that help the small businesses?

I dont know how users still give the playstation network personal information. I recently just bought ps3 but there is no way in hell my info is going in there. I rather max out my credit cards instead of someone else, thank you very much lol

Hear, hear!! I agree! I heard Marcus Carey say that the only card that should be used is gift cards.  It is easy and safer.
90  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Web Applications / Re: Course for web testing on: October 13, 2011, 11:55:25 AM
Agoonie what was the price of the course ?

I have looked at ElearnSecurity but in order to do the pro course it cost $599 or three payment what work out $650 that is a lot of money compared to the mile2 course at $250 and its only really web stuff I need to learn ASAP.

Does anyone know why with ElearnSecurity if you do the pay monthly its more expensive ? I think this little off putting IMO if it was same price I would be more tempted to do it.

Also does anyone know if you pay monthly do you still get the 5% off ?

Having another certificate would be cool but I am not sure how many companies in the UK would see the value of it.

The one I am talking about is 2500 bucks.  It might take a minute to come up with that.  I am still saving for the OSCE which is a grand less.  I probably will end of doing it anyway since the content is that good.  Smiley
