121  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OSCP - Offensive Security Certified Professional / Re: OSCP vs Hacking Dojo on: June 21, 2011, 07:35:20 AM
I have not taken the HackingDojo course but I know the OSCP course teaches you most of the steps in a pentest.  The thing I was most impressed with, was the Pentest report.  That teaches you to organize your thoughts and hacks, then present them in a very detailed and comprehensible report.

I was able to achieve and recreate each hack just by going thru my notes and practicing.  That really helps when you think of the number of machines that you are attacking.  If I had to pick, I would still go with the OSCP.  I think a beginner can get thru the course.  It just may require more time than someone with more experience.

Good luck guys! This link is posted somewhere on the site but I could not find it so I will just repost it.  It might help.  "http://code.google.com/p/pentest-bookmarks/wiki/BookmarksList".   I am sure we will all be saying "Congrats" soon.  Grin

And it is getting worse.  The attacks are improving and I think Mac users may be a little less prepared for these tricks.  I hope Apple starts to open up to its users about the problem.  It may hurt their myth about "no viruses\malware" but it should help their users in the long run.

Hopefully by practicing the exploit-db exploits and checking out the book, I should be ready to tackle this course.  Thanks again for the info.   Grin

Just wondering, is the book, "Fuzzing: Brute Force Vulnerability Discovery" by
Michael Sutton, et al a good book to pick up before taking the OSCE course?

Thanks for the info Jamie.R and j0rDy.  I want to get to the point where I can crack WEP in my sleep and attempt to tackle WPA. It seems like with crunch and backtrack, you can give WPA a run for its money.  Also I want to test my own wireless networks.  Thanks again guys for the info.

Congrats Maxe!! I was also wondering how it compared to the OSCE exam.  A lot of people here seem to have the GPEN so it must be very informative and a good certification to have.

I know the recommended hardware for the course is a WRT54GL (Access Point) but does anyone know if the course can be done with a WRT54G (Access Point)?  Thanks in advance.

Anyone that is using Gnome, do you use NoteCase instead of Basket for your notes?  If so, do you think it is just as good, if not better?  I really got use to working with Basket.

Grin Maybe now they will drop their prices to half of what they currently sale for. Then they might be fairly priced.  Like that is going to happen...

HAHAHA, I wish. Then it could make a 17" laptop seem like a reasonable purchase.

Ninja Hacking: Unconventional Penetration Testing Tactics and Techniques

I have not had the chance to read it yet but it has been recommended on this site many times.  It seems like a very good read especially if you want to use "uncommon" techniques for pentesting.  I am currently reading Dissecting the Hack and the Web Application Hackers Handbook.  Hopefully I can get to Ninja Hacking before Ghost in the Wires comes out.

I just wanted to note a solution for the system beep in Backtrack 5 (Gnome x64) that I was having.  It is painfully loud.  Anyway, maybe someone else is having the same trouble:

In the terminal:
run 'alsamixer'
move to PC Beep
press m to mute
press escape

Another thing, did someone installed both Firefox 4 and Firefox 3.6?

The default Firefox 4 doesn't support some interesting plugins yet...

I found this link for Windows: http://superuser.com/questions/160986/install-firefox-4-beta-alongside-firefox-3-6

This for Macs: http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-run-firefox-4-and-3-simultaneously-in-mac-os-x-with-multiple-firefox-profiles-2011-3

It is probably feasible, based on this post: http://www.johannes-eva.net/how-to-install-firefox-on-ubuntu-linux

I just want to know if someone was able to do it in Backtrack 5.

Thanks

Not sure if this helps but they have given some 'HowTos' on the backtrack site for plugins for Firefox 4.  Maybe you can apply these steps for all plugins. I figure it is worth a shot.  I will be able to try this later tonight.  I can post later if this is successful for more missing plugins.
