2  Resources / Tutorials / I need an help with GDB on: November 06, 2010, 01:20:19 PM
Hi guys.
I don't know if it the right place where to ask an help.
Anyway, I'm writing an exploit for the new proftpd stack overflow vulnerability.
Infact, I already analyzed the stack and created the exploit... the problem is that it works only if I install proftpd in the debug mode.

I know there is a way with GDB to attach the pid of the process running in a normal way ( for "normai", I mean withou debug options ) in order to keep a neat stack on which I can work...

In other words, if u want to develope an exploit for a vulnerable linux service with root privilages... what would u do?

Thanks in advance... I hope my italienglish is enought easy to understand!! Smiley

5  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / CEH certification - need a contact on: December 19, 2009, 03:19:36 AM
Hi all.
I hope there is someone that could help me to have some informations about this certification.

Few days ago I registered for a CEH course called iLearn. I already sent 2 emails, but noone answered. I would like to pay the course as soon as possible cause I want to pay it with the budget that I use to keep at the end of the year. In general, how many days they need to answer?

Few months ago I asked something to e-council, but I got a reply from an italian organization that works with the CEH certifications. They started to say that the only "solution" they had was the 5 live trainings and the cost was 4200 EUROs ( isn't it a BIT more than the official cost? )...

ANYWAY I don't need to have informations about the 5 days live training. I would like to have some infos about the iLearn course.
Is there someone that works for the ecouncil here? Wink
Or is there someone that could answer some of my questions?

By example: if i chose the iLearn method, how many months I have to study and prepare the exam? Actually my pproblem is just the time, but I understood that the iLearn course gives u the possibility to study when u have time without any live instructor, right?

do u know if there is an email where the e-council answers to the questions directly?
6  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / OSCP - Offensive Security Certified Professional / Re: I will start tomorrow!!! on: July 25, 2009, 07:31:01 AM
It' s the third time I answer to this post, but maybe I did some mistakes since i don' t see my answer.
I said the the course is sooo great! The Lab really take your mind and make u focus on how to solve the problems. Really really great.
I didn' go yet on irc cause I'm scared that, once there, I will ask for some hint! But since from tomorrow I will start to go...  also to know the other students and tthe staff!

Thank you Eternal for your support. i will surely ask u for suggestions

Ah, there is something that I would like to ask: the exam will be always in a lab environment with several targets to attack? The course, the research and the experience done in the lab is enough to pass it?
I really hope to pass this exam... if not, I will do it again!

Anyway, I also sent them another email and I'm waiting for their answers.

About the self-study solution, it could be great but CEH wants u have at least 2 years of working experience in the security field ( so it is better I follow their courses to have their certification ) and for GPEN, as you said, there is any official book, so maybe should be better to follow their course to know at least the program of the exam...

so my question is: Do you know if they both have a service of training online? If not, is there any other GOOD and KNOWN certification that has an online training?

thanks!!!

Great! Thank you all for the precious answers!!!
I appriciate it so much.

Now everything is more clear!
I will read carefully both bullettins.
If I will still have some few questions, I will surely ask u beffore taking my final decision!
12  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: with which certification should I start? on: June 26, 2009, 02:08:00 AM
thank you!
Unfortunatly, E-Council help desk didn't help me much in findind a solution.
They just replied inviting me following their live training. But that was the point: I can't follow a live trainint. That's why i was more oriented on GPEN, cause at least it is sure that I can follow an online course...
But in these case, i would like to know how much it is and if there are official papers on which I can follow the program of the exam.
But i had any answer from them...

Hi All!

I'm Pasquale, from Italy. I'm sorry for my english... hope to not be so bad!!!

I have worked in several fields of IT as a system engineer, network administrator, C/C++ programmer.
My "forma mentis" is well oriented to security and i have always tried to apply, what I knew or studied, to my work.
I'm graduated in "system and network security" and I have a certification in "security management".

Actually, i would like to study for a certification that could give me the possibility to introduce me better in the field of network security... in other words: i would like to work in the network security, but a lot of companies look for certifications...

I had a little experience in "penetration testing" and i would have liked to start with the GPEN from SANS or CEH from eccouncil.

first question: which one is more...mmmm.... known according to you? Maybe in the future I will do both, but I have to chose one for now! Smiley

The second question is: is there a way to study it without following the live trainings? For GPEN I think there is any problem cause there are the online courses. And for CEH? I sent an email to them, but they "answered without answering to my questions", inviting me to follow their live training...............

I read, somewhere in this forum, that there are some trainers from SANS.
Could u please give me some advise?

Thank you all!
I wait for your suggestions! Smiley

Ciao,
Pasquale
