2  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Wireless Question.. on: September 13, 2007, 11:05:06 AM
Write a letter to the college administration detailing your situation and why you think you need access to their wireless network, and how you plan to use it. If they agree then they refer you to the IT dept. for them to configure the correct settings on your laptop.
Thats the right way. Do not think about cracking into network else you'll be in trouble.
Request the college admin. and they'll surely help you.

Perfect Keylogger is a very good one but not any more......

most of the antivirus programmes catch that and do not let it work although one can do that by adding it into exceptions list if possible.

also you can try with sniffers as all the chat programs kids use go with plain text communication and you can also come to know what they were chatting about and with whom. It also gives you what sites they have been visiting and so on. you can start with Ethereal, its free and works great.

In addition to VNC, you can also try dameware.....but you need to do a few configs so that kids can never know when you connect to their PCs.

Kev is absolutely right.  You learn by doing.  (Note:  Setup test labs or work on networks that you have permission to work on.  Never test your knowledge on unauthorized systems.)  Attempt to find a mentor or someone who has the experience and knowledge and is willing to share it with you.  Sometimes, those who can't do something, teach, so be careful who you learn from.  If you are a good hacker, everyone knows your name, if you are a great hacker, no one knows who you are.

Thats quite true........

If you get a mentor........things are on a fast track instantly and then you can nail any certification with your knowledge and a mentor's expericnce and advices. A lot of times it is easier to learn things by listening to someone & then discuss rather than going through the books again n again.
5  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Help me.! What to do First? on: September 03, 2007, 02:29:16 PM
Nish....

If you are interested in Security then I'll suggest to start with CompTIA Security +. This one is considered as the starting point to get into security field. Once you are done with this then you have many options open to you depending on your specific interest.

For Networking, CCNA/MCP is your starting point and then later on you can proceed to various fileds like Designing, Security or Administration of networks......again that depends on your interest.

I'll suggest you to go through various job sites and have an idea whats there in demand in your local job market and then plan and go ahead with your choice. You are already done your Engineering in IT, compliment it with some certifications and you can make a good money for you.

Hope this helps Smiley

Quote

Note: Effective 1 October 2007, professional work experience requirements for the CISSP® will increase from four to five years, and direct full-time security professional work experience will be required in two or more of the ten CISSP® CBK® domains. A new endorsement policy will also be in effect, requiring anyone who passes a CISSP, CAP®, or SSCP®exam to have their qualifications endorsed by another (ISC)˛ credential holder. These changes will not affect those who sit for an examination on or before 30 September 2007.

This can be reduced by one year if the CISSP candidate has any of the mentioned credentials on this list

hope that helps Smiley

Sorry, Boney.

As I stated the last time you asked, this is the ETHICAL hacking community.

In addition, the (ISC)2 code of ethics prohibits me from doing so.  I worked very hard to pass this exam and have no intention of jeopardizing the fruits of my labors.  Plus, giving out the questions immediately lowers the value of the certification.

So, Boney, start reading.  Read the Shon Harris All-In-One, the (ISC)2 Official Guide to the CBK, and anything else you can get your hands on.  I studied for almost a year for this thing, then took a boot camp, and still didn't know how I did when I walked out of there.

I worked hard, why shouldn't you?

Right said oneeyedcarmen, we need to stick to code of ethics that we sign prior to start with exam. Keep it up man.....

Boney: There is just no way to pass CISSP by mugging up or going through different and many questions. One just need to get on to the concepts.

No other way........simply no shortcut.

10  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / Important Domains for CEH on: March 12, 2007, 12:40:51 AM
Dear All,

Can someone please elaborate what particular domains out of CEH curriculum are more important than others?

For example: Footprinting and Enumerations wont be as important/difficult as System Hacking or Web Application Vulnerabilities.

It would be great if people gone through the exam can give a priority list of the different domains covered in CEH.

Hi Smiley

I'll advise first you start with Security + as it covers all basic stuff and will help you in getting familiar with security terminology and will clear many of your concepts as well.

Later on, second should be any from CEH or SSCP as per your wish. SSCP is more detailed one of what you'll be covering in Sec + and CEH will be more n more of technical and tools specific. So you can choose either of them depending upon your preferences.

Following read can be a good start for CEH
