No real reason for the prank, just jokes between brothers...

Last time, I took a screenshot of his desktop, hid all his icons and set the background image to the screenshot I took... He was really confused, but we got a good laugh out of it...

I had an idea about a way to prank my brother.

My idea was to try to get my brother to give me his facebook password, and then add rediculous applications to his account...
To do this, I was hoping to change my email account settings in Outlook to make it look like I'm sending him an email from facebook saying that it looks like his account has been hacked and that his password may have been changed. And then asking for his password to make sure the records on facebook's systems are accurate.

I managed to change the name on the email, but when I read the test mail, it went through as 'Facebook Support [w3bwarl0ck@gmail.com].
Obviously, this is a problem and it made me think, is it actually possible to fake your email address? If so, how? I changed the email address on my gmail account in outlook, and I through the only sign that the mail's fake would be in the headers...

I HATE capped data lines...

Thanks for the info about the tools guys, but I can't download any of it.
My connection is capped at 3G, and I'm not the only one who uses it.

That's the reason I love small .exe downloads...

Thanks again though

So, you're basically saying that I've still got loads of work in store for me...

Jason, I don't know what's worse, the fact that I could read what you said, or the fact that you typed it  Grin

I just get frustrated, because my ideas about hacking are very much in line with what you see in Hackers(1995) - so very infantile.
Do you guys know about white papers on the real stuff for beginners?

I've got the vpc set up to use WinXP - I would prefer to use linux, but it seems my pc doesn't have the ram and stuff to handle Vista and linux running at the same time...

I'm hoping to get something that'll show me how to get into a password protected user profile too

It's what the subject says, I'm looking for someone who's willing to teach me everything there is to know about IT security and hacking.

At my last job, I learnt asp classic in two months at my last job under the wing of a guy who had learnt it in college. Despite doing everything I could at home (as I don't have money for courses or anything), I hadn't learnt in years what he taught me.

So, my question again, is anyone willing to take me under their wing (to as great an extent as possible over the net) and teach me about hacking and IT security? I'm very eager and willing.

I agree jimbob.

Assuming the client wrote the website, then the vulnerability is theirs and they would (should) fix it.

Generally, this is how it would work. The HSP is responsible for nothing more than the hosting, anything that's done with the applications that are run on the server is the responsibility of the client.

I would imagine that if the exploit causes server-wide damage, the HSP would take more interest as it would affect more that just the one client.

OK, I should've done more research. I was expecting telnet to give me access to the vpc's filesystem...

I've tried looking for software that I can use to access the vpc's filesystem, but I haven't found anything.

I found some tutorials on doing all sorts of things crackers would do, but nothing on remotely accessing a protected filesystem.
Does anyone know about a tutorial on doing this or is it ridiculous to assume that such a tutorial exists?

I'm just starting out with Hacking for Dummies and it's given me a great idea to set up a virtual pc and attempt to break into it.
Well, I've set up the virtual pc and I've managed to get a telnet connection to it on port 135, but now I'm stuck. What do I do now? I'd like to try and browse the filesystem remotely, but I don't know how.
I'm using Windows Vista (you may all cringe now) as the host OS and XP as the guest OS. I would've used Fedora Core or Ubuntu linux as the guest, but I think my discs are wrecked.

If anyone can post a list of telnet commands for browsing a filesystem or help me in anyway, I'd really appreciate it. After searching on google, all I keep getting is the standard list of telnet commands that appear when I type in ?
