so you got your bootcamp materials ahead of time?  i didnt know that.  is that usually the case?  i really havent thought much about doing bootcamps because i dont feel i can  adequatelly squeeze all that info into a week. but if i had time to study the material before it would be a different story.

997  Features / Opinions / Re: Linux vs Windows on: August 06, 2006, 04:29:09 PM
while not disagreeing with either one of you.  my for example is what was the last good exploit for the linux 2.6 kernel?  we just had a great local root exploit but how about the last remote exploit for 2.6?

is that a result of security professionals not focusing on linux for exploits or its open source philosphy?

1000  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: accessing a blocked port... on: August 03, 2006, 07:18:31 PM
actually thinking about it a little more today.  you could do a client side attack like some of the IE browser bugs that would send a shell back to you if you get him to click on a link, trojans would also be another way.  the point is if he isnt offering any services on any ports there wont be an easy way to get a shell, and i dont think any way without some user interaction.

hope that helps a little

1002  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: What is the Modes Operandi for an ethical hacker while dealing with new expl on: August 02, 2006, 08:54:45 PM
there are several "disclosures" and different hats subscribe to different ones.  use google.

i dont recall seeing one for CISSP or CEH or CPTS, more of moral questions like should you just release it to the public without contacting the vendor or not.

1005  Resources / Tools / Re: Metasploit Framework 3.0 Beta 1 Released on: August 02, 2006, 03:01:03 PM
we've got a guy over at LSO that works with the MSF project, i can tell you the MSF 3 is going to give canvas and core a run for its money with its recon modules and some of the other new goodies that will come with it.  way cool stuff.
